Leslye Headland, the creator and showrunner of The Acolyte, recently revealed plans for a potential second season. During an interview on The George Lucas Talk Show, she shared that the season would have focused on Yoda and his story.
Season 2 of The Acolyte would have revealed Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh attempting to hide a series of deaths. She planned to blame the deceased Jedi Sol, hoping to protect the Jedi Council from investigation. Instead of admitting the truth – that Osha was responsible – Vernestra was determined to portray Sol as a dangerous, unstable Jedi. The first season ended with Vernestra about to tell Yoda everything.
If The Acolyte hadn’t been canceled, the showrunner, Lesly Headland, revealed that Yoda would have teamed up with Vernestra to hide a secret. This decision would likely have upset many Star Wars fans, but Headland pointed out that Yoda has a history of similar actions, as seen in The Clone Wars.
The Acolyte Still Divides Star Wars Fans
I was so excited when the new series launched this year, but honestly, people seem really split on it! It stars Amandla Stenberg playing twins, Osha and Mae, who both have a connection to The Force. They were separated by something terrible, and it led them down completely different paths. Osha thought Mae was gone and gave up on becoming a Jedi, while Mae… well, she fell into the Dark Side and became a killer, traveling all over the galaxy. It’s a really interesting setup, even if it’s proving controversial.
When it first came out, the series received generally positive reviews from critics, earning a “Certified Fresh” rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 250 reviews. However, viewers on the site had a very different reaction, giving it a low 19% rating (measured by the “Popcornmeter”). The show also faced a lot of negative reviews from users both before and after its release.
What’s Next for the Star Wars Franchise?
In 2026, the highly anticipated series finale will air on May 22nd, bringing one of the most popular TV shows of the last ten years to a close.
A new Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, is scheduled for release in 2027. Shawn Levy will direct the film, written by Jonathan Tropper, and the cast includes Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Simon Bird, Aaron Pierre, Flynn Gray, and Amy Adams.
Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
