With “The Madison,” Taylor Sheridan, the creator of “Yellowstone,” has launched what promises to be a remarkable new series, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. According to People magazine, this is Sheridan’s most personal project yet, and Pfeiffer’s involvement – both as the lead actress, Stacy Clyburn, and as an executive producer – could make the Paramount+ series a major success.
Kurt Russell’s Predictions for Michelle Pfeiffer and The Madison Carry Weight
With the release of the first official trailer, excitement is building for the new series. The trailer offers a glimpse into the show, contrasting moments of Stacy Clyburn (played by Pfeiffer) dealing with loss with tender scenes alongside her husband, Preston (played by Russell).
Originally known as 2024 and once considered part of Taylor Sheridan’s expanding Western world, The Madison now seems to be forging its own path. While promotional materials don’t mention any connection to Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise, it’s currently unknown if the characters will ultimately tie into that universe. However, there are promising things happening with the show.
Russell praised both The Madison and his fellow actors, discussing his involvement in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He explained that Sheridan and Pfeiffer, who are also executive producers on The Madison, adjusted the filming schedule to accommodate his availability, as they specifically wanted him to play Stacy’s husband.
During a recent interview discussing The Madison, Russell praised the series as “a smart show.” He spoke highly of the show’s executive producers, specifically mentioning Taylor as an “excellent writer” and Michelle as a standout performer. Russell also suggested the show could be an awards contender, implying Michelle is a likely candidate for recognition.
Michelle Pfeiffer’s involvement brings significant star power and prestige to the project, as she’s been nominated for three Academy Awards. Beyond acting, she’s also an executive producer, a role she’s taken on for two upcoming 2026 television series: The Madison and another unnamed show.
The Madison Could Disrupt Taylor Sheridan’s History With the Emmy Awards
Taylor Sheridan’s popular TV shows, like Yellowstone, its prequel 1923, and Landman, have attracted a large audience. 1923, for example, had 9.2 million viewers for its premiere on Paramount+, making it the platform’s most-watched debut ever. Despite this success, the Emmy Awards haven’t given Sheridan’s growing collection of crime and Western dramas much recognition.
Over its five seasons, Yellowstone won one Emmy Award, recognizing its outstanding production design in Season 3. The show’s first spin-off, 1883, received nominations for its visuals, music, and sound, but the actors weren’t recognized with nominations. 1923 also earned nominations for its costumes and set design, but again, the performances were not nominated.
Taylor Sheridan’s other series, such as Lioness and Tulsa King, haven’t received much recognition either. Despite solid viewership, many believe the Emmys have overlooked his work. A frequent explanation is that his shows are perceived as appealing to conservative audiences. However, Billy Bob Thornton, who stars in Sheridan’s Landman, argues that the political themes in his shows are actually quite complex.
Even if shows like Yellowstone and Landman lean politically in one direction, Taylor Sheridan’s series are also known for sparking debate, particularly in how they depict sex, power dynamics, and women. However, Russell points out that The Madison aims to tell a story through a female perspective, and Michelle Pfeiffer’s role as an executive producer could bring a new and insightful approach to the show.
