It’s generally agreed that people appreciate crossovers, especially the high-quality ones. However, even exceptional crossovers may not always be well-received if they seem too unconventional, like for instance, “Dancing with the Sharks.” Often, characters appear to switch between shows due to their shared franchise, but there are instances when such transitions aren’t required and it simply feels organic to combine two previously unrelated series. For example, Jennifer Love Hewitt‘s “9-1-1” and Kaitlin Olson’s “High Potential.
The second season of the recent dramedy is underway, having dominated the ratings during its debut. Olson is juggling multiple roles, including filming for Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Season 4 of Hacks. It seems that Hewitt would be overjoyed to introduce her character from 9-1-1, the dispatcher, into Olson’s character’s world, specifically Morgan, a neurodivergent semi-genius, at some point in the 2025 TV lineup (or sooner, but everyone is eager not to wait that long).
In an interview with AwardsBuzz, Hewitt gleefully mentioned her love for ‘High Potential’ alongside expressing her hopes for a crossover. This is what she said:
“I was absolutely thrilled to discuss my affection for ‘High Potential’, and at the same time, I shared my dreams for a potential collaboration.
I can’t get enough of the High Potential series! They’re based in L.A., and there’s this character who keeps talking about Dispatch. It’s like, “She needs to visit the Dispatch Center, or I need to pay her a visit.” Or I even imagine that we could collaborate, where an episode of hers could conclude with her dropping by my Dispatch Center, followed by me joining her next adventure. But honestly, I’d be thrilled just to be part of that show. It looks like so much fun!
Without a doubt, Jennifer Love Hewitt seems nearly as thrilled about the prospect of joining “High Potential” for its second season as I’ve rarely felt excited about anything before. Her youthful exuberance is truly contagious.
I must admit that the concept of characters from other ABC shows appearing in the universe of “High Potential” never crossed my mind, and I hadn’t given it much thought that Morgan might show up in a different show. (Perhaps because the crossover episodes of “Always Sunny” and “Abbott Elementary” were so fantastic that they filled that need.)
Yet, it’s evident that Hewitt pondered over the concept, though she may lack a professional counterpart to discuss it with. In her own terms, she expresses:
1. “Hewitt seems to have given some consideration to the notion, but unfortunately, she doesn’t seem to have anyone in the professional realm to bounce ideas off of.”
2. “It’s clear that Hewitt has pondered about this idea, although it appears she lacks a professional peer for brainstorming sessions.”
3. “Hewitt has given thought to the idea, yet it seems she doesn’t have a professional colleague to share her insights with.”
It’d be quite exciting, wouldn’t it? The same family, the same Disney, the same ABC, but here’s the twist: I believe it would be incredibly entertaining because her character is so amusing, and I have this feeling that she and Maddie would make a fantastic duo on screen.
In an ideal world, Jennifer Love Hewitt might not have to express her wish for a “High Potential” crossover multiple times, as ABC executives would be eagerly preparing for audiences to witness Maddie and Morgan battling various types of criminal elements. While there are certainly other factors involved, if the right people hear about this idea, it could naturally gain traction.
Following the difficult events that unfolded during the season finale of 9-1-1, Maddie might benefit from some positive reinforcement in Season 9. Perhaps a dynamic single mom with a quick wit could bring just that. It’s hard to predict what kind of mischief they might get up to, all confined within Dispatch, but it’s safe to say they’d find ways to keep things interesting and entertaining.
As the ninth season of 9-1-1 is now being filmed at ABC, it would be wise for everyone there to keep alert and on the lookout for potential crossover ideas as we approach the October 16 premiere date of the Ryan Murphy drama.
