Delroy Lindo is still hoping to play a superhero and has hinted that he might appear in Black Panther 3. He recently collaborated with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler on the hugely successful Oscar-winning film.
Despite having a long list of acting credits, John Boyega hasn’t appeared in a superhero film yet. It’s not for lack of trying – he’s been considered for multiple roles in Marvel movies. He recently revealed to a publication that he specifically asked Ryan Coogler if he could be in Black Panther 3.
Lindo confirmed he told Ryan Coogler he’d be thrilled to appear in Black Panther 3 if the opportunity arose.
The actor hasn’t confirmed he’ll be in the film, and even if the director has offered him a part, they’re probably keeping it secret. He mentioned that any role offered to him would need to be substantial and worth his effort.
Lindo explained that while he didn’t use those exact words, that was essentially what he meant, and Lindo said he appreciated that perspective.
Delroy Lindo Was Supposed to Star in Blade
For several years, Marvel Studios has been trying to get a new Blade movie off the ground, but it hasn’t happened yet. They first announced the R-rated superhero film in July 2019 at Comic-Con, and Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali was set to play the lead role.
Back in November 2021, there was news about a particular actor being cast. This announcement was a significant development initially, but ultimately didn’t come to fruition. The actor has since left the project, and Marvel Studios hasn’t officially cancelled it.
In an April 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lindo shared that Marvel valued his opinions from the start. He described conversations with the show’s producers, writer, and director that all pointed towards a commitment to inclusivity.
He described the project as creatively thrilling, and also exciting because of the character he’d be portraying. While he didn’t say specifically what made the character exciting, he hinted that the role was inspired by the life and ideals of Marcus Garvey.
Before landing a mysterious part in Marvel’s Blade, Delroy Lindo was originally chosen to play Dominic Fortune in the pilot for Marvel’s Most Wanted. Unfortunately, the show wasn’t picked up by ABC, so he never got the chance to appear as a superhero.
What to Expect from Black Panther 3?
The director of Sinners was working on the Oscar-nominated vampire movie and writing another script. However, in mid-November 2025, he announced that Black Panther 3 would be his next project.
Not much is known about the story of the next film in the hugely popular series, but director Ryan Coogler has confirmed that Denzel Washington will be involved.
Black Panther 3 is expected to premiere in theaters sometime in 2028.
