Netflix’s Hard Sci-Fi Series ‘Love, Death & Robots’ Has Aged Well

Netflix has a lot of popular sci-fi shows like Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, 3 Body Problem, and Black Mirror, but one original series stands out as truly unique. It first came out in 2019 and has quickly become a favorite, earning fantastic reviews from both critics and viewers on sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. In fact, two of its seasons have achieved perfect 100% scores on Rotten Tomatoes, proving it’s a show that only gets better with time and is perfect for a weekend binge.

While recent seasons have been particularly praised, every episode of this show is fantastic, and it holds up incredibly well over time. Created by Tim Miller, known for his work on Deadpool, and executive produced by David Fincher, the series also provides opportunities for new filmmakers to make a name for themselves. Though it may not be the most widely watched show, Love, Death & Robots is easily one of the best available.

Love, Death & Robots is a sci-fi series made up of individual episodes. It takes you on wild journeys, from the far reaches of space to bizarre alternate realities – like one where Hitler became an artist. It’s strange, dreamlike, and sticks with you long after you’ve watched it. The show was well-received when it first came out in 2019, but fans especially loved Seasons 3 and 4. However, those later seasons sometimes make people forget how great the first two seasons were.

‘Love, Death & Robots’ Season 1 Reinvigorated the Sci-Fi Genre

Even though science fiction includes ‘science’ in its name, it really lets writers create stories in any setting – past, present, or future – as long as they involve some kind of advanced technology. Unfortunately, the genre often falls into familiar patterns like time travel adventures, stories set in ruined futures, or dramatic space operas.

While we’ve enjoyed many great sci-fi movies and shows, the genre felt stale. Then came Love, Death & Robots, offering a truly fresh take with its unusual format, varied moods, and distinctive animation. The first season is a brilliant mix of stories – from intense thrillers about genetically engineered creatures to surprisingly funny tales of a yogurt-fueled apocalypse. Best of all, each episode is short – under 20 minutes – making it easy to watch the entire season in an evening.

‘Love, Death & Robots’ Might Be Dead

Netflix

Even though Love, Death & Robots is considered one of Netflix’s top sci-fi series, its future isn’t guaranteed. The fourth season, released in May 2025, was very popular, but Netflix hasn’t decided if it will make any more seasons. Many Netflix viewers have seen good shows end prematurely—GLOW is a prime example of this.
