Jonathan Majors to Star in New Untitled Daily Wire Action Film

Jonathan Majors quickly became a rising star with several prominent roles in films and television shows at the beginning of the 2020s. However, in 2023, his career was derailed when he was convicted of harassing and assaulting his ex-girlfriend. This followed successful appearances in Creed III with Michael B. Jordan and as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, a role that was intended to make him the central villain for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Since the allegations became public, Majors hasn’t appeared in any major films and has largely been absent from entertainment news for the past three years.

According to Deadline, Jonathan Majors will lead a new action movie from The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, with filming starting this week in South Carolina. Kyle Rankin is directing and wrote the screenplay, though details about the plot and other actors are currently being kept secret. Sources say the story will have a similar feel to classic ’80s and ’90s action films like Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers, which featured groups of teenage boys fighting off invaders. Ben Shapiro of The Daily Wire and Dallas Sonnier of Bonfire Legend are producing the movie.

Filming for the new movie starts soon, but details about its release date and plot are still unknown.

The Daily Wire is a conservative media company that often features personalities who have faced controversy or been publicly criticized. Recently, they collaborated with Gina Carano, formerly of The Mandalorian, on the 2022 film Terror on the Prairie. Carano starred in, developed, and produced the movie after being fired from The Mandalorian following social media posts that drew comparisons between current political and pandemic-related issues and the Holocaust. She is also planning a return to her career as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Following that, Travis Mills directed Frontier Crucible for The Daily Wire and Sonnier’s Bonfire Legend. The film starred Armie Hammer, who later faced serious allegations of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, as well as coercive control. Leaked messages also revealed disturbing claims about his personal interests, leading to his dismissal by his agency and the cancellation of several projects.

This news arrives nearly two years after Jonathan Majors was cast in Merciless, his first film following his legal issues. The movie is directed by Martin Villeneuve, brother of Dune director Denis Villeneuve, and produced by Christopher Tuffin. Tuffin was also a key producer on the 2022 film Sound of Freedom, which sparked considerable controversy when it was released.
