3 Huge Superhero Movies Not Expected To Get US Imax Releases in 2026

It’s unlikely that three big superhero movies planned for 2026 – Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Clayface – will be shown in IMAX theaters exclusively in the US. IMAX has already scheduled those premium screens for other films.

Several major superhero movies, including Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Clayface, won’t be shown exclusively in IMAX theaters when they’re released in 2026. This is because IMAX has already committed those screen slots to other films through previous agreements.

The release date for Avengers: Doomsday is causing some scheduling issues because it’s currently set for December 18th, the same day as the new Dune movie, Dune: Part Three. Dune: Part Three had already booked exclusive access to IMAX theaters across the US when Marvel decided to move Doomsday from its original May 1, 2026, release to December.

During its opening weekend, all Imax theaters in the US will show the new Denis Villeneuve film. The movie ‘Doomsday’ will only be available in Imax in a few international locations. Because Imax tickets cost more, this distribution strategy gives ‘Dune 3’ a financial edge.

Even with limitations in IMAX format, Avengers: Doomsday is still a remarkably large-scale Marvel film. Robert Downey Jr. will play the villain Doctor Doom, and the movie boasts a star-studded cast including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, and Pedro Pascal. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the team behind several successful Marvel movies.

As a big movie fan, I just heard something interesting about upcoming releases. It looks like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which comes out July 17th, is getting a really long run in IMAX theaters across the US. That’s great for Nolan fans, but it means the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day – set to release on July 31st – won’t be able to show in IMAX here for the first few weeks. It’s a shame, because I always like seeing those big action movies in that format!

The new DC Studios Clayface movie isn’t listed as having an IMAX exclusive release, either.
