Fans of Apple TV+’s sci-fi hit will have to wait for the next season, but there’s a compelling corporate horror series on Prime Video that’s worth checking out in the meantime.
Lots of horror shows and thrillers feature haunted houses and supernatural creatures. But when it comes to exploring the frightening side of corporations and using dark humor to do so, very few horror stories actually make the workplace the source of the terror.
A new horror series on Prime Video is trying something different by basing its story on a suspenseful thriller novel. It shares similarities with a popular sci-fi show on Apple TV.
Prime Video’s The Consultant Is The Perfect Show To Watch While Waiting For Severance Season 3
Don’t expect season 3 of Severance until 2027. Fans of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series will have to wait at least another year for the next installment. In the meantime, if you’re looking for something similar, Prime Video’s The Consultant explores comparable ideas.
The movie The Consultant is based on Bentley Little’s novel of the same name. The story mainly takes place at a video game company and centers around Regus Patoff, a consultant who arrives after the company’s CEO is killed. He claims he wants to help, but his behavior becomes increasingly unsettling as he takes control and reveals his sinister true nature.
As a big fan of shows that really make you think, I’ve been struck by the similarities between Severance and The Consultant. Both use the setting of an office to explore bigger, unsettling questions about life and purpose. What’s really fascinating is how, in both shows, the people working at these companies slowly lose control of their own lives and start to feel like they’re just…tools to be used. However, while Severance is more of a psychological thriller, The Consultant definitely dips its toes into horror, and even throws in some supernatural stuff, which is a cool twist.
If you loved Severance, you absolutely need to check this out. It shares a similar unsettling vibe and a clever undercurrent of commentary on corporate life. Plus, Christoph Waltz is fantastic – he really leans into playing the villain, and it’s captivating to watch. He’s a master at these roles, and he delivers a truly brilliant, chilling performance as the show’s central antagonist.
Why Severance Season 3 Is Taking So Long
As a huge fan, I was thrilled to hear anything about Severance season 2 wrapping up in March 2025, but a little disappointed to learn we’ll be waiting until Summer 2026 for filming to begin on season 3. I understand the delay is partly because of the time that’s passed since the last season aired. But honestly, with a show as brilliantly detailed and complex as Severance, I think it needs that extra time. Every little thing feels so carefully planned, so I’m happy to be patient if it means they can maintain that incredible quality.
Because sci-fi shows rely heavily on visual effects, the release of Severance season 3 could be delayed even more. Coordinating the availability of the actors and overcoming other production hurdles might also push back the premiere date.
Although fans are disappointed that season 2 of Apple TV+’s Severance isn’t coming out for a while, Prime Video’s The Consultant offers a similar intriguing watch in the meantime.
