The popular DC Comics series is largely the creative work of Scott Snyder, though several artists have helped bring his new take on Batman to life. Is another of Snyder’s frequent collaborators about to join the team?
Scott Snyder recently revealed on social media that he hopes to work with artist Greg Capullo on his planned Absolute Batman project, which he considers a dream collaboration.
The news came as a response to a Twitter conversation started by Edgar Davids (@DKJoker84), who asked if artist Capullo might contribute to the popular comic. Capullo replied by sharing a post saying he’d already done plenty of work on Batman, adding peace sign and pencil emojis.
A user named 5M (@Thuunderbagua) commented on the post, suggesting artist Todd Capullo could work on one of the two upcoming story arcs for The Absolute series. Capullo then retweeted the comment and shared that his brother, Scott, had actually made that offer.
When someone asked if the artist had declined the offer, Greg Capullo confirmed he had. He explained he felt he’d spent enough time – over a decade – drawing Batman, and added that he’s been enjoying the project so far.
I saw that Scott Snyder responded to Greg Capullo mentioning he’d been offered a chance to work on Absolute Batman. Snyder basically said the offer still stands – he assured Capullo the opportunity would always be there, which was really cool to see!
It’s looking like we might not get another Batman story from Snyder and Capullo after all, which is a real bummer. It all hinges on whether Jock (Capullo) wants to do more Batman comics, and from what I’ve heard, he’s currently focused on other projects. Fingers crossed something changes, but it doesn’t seem likely right now.
Fans will likely be upset by this news, especially considering the exciting developments in the Absolute Universe. The recent turn involving the traditionally seductive ecoterrorist in Absolute Batman #17 and Snyder’s confirmation of future events in issue #20 make this particularly frustrating.
The recent announcement from DC Comics that really makes the possibility of Greg Capullo temporarily taking over art duties on Absolute Batman from Nick Dragotta so interesting is…
Scott Snyder And Greg Capullo Have Created Magic Working On Batman Comics
The latest issue of Absolute Batman reveals a major surprise: the Court of Owls is real, and Bruce Wayne’s mother, Martha, who is still alive, used to be one of its members and has been drawn back in.
A secret society secretly ruling Gotham City first appeared in a comic book storyline created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo. This story, from the ‘New 52’ era of DC Comics, has become one of the most celebrated modern adventures for the character and a defining work for Snyder and Capullo.
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have teamed up for several critically acclaimed Batman stories, including Batman: Death of the Family and Dark Knights: Metal. Many fans consider their portrayal of Batman to be one of the best of its era.
Capullo started gaining recognition in the 1990s, drawing for Marvel’s Quasar and X-Force. He then moved to Image Comics, where he worked on Todd McFarlane’s Spawn. In 1997, he also launched his own horror comic, The Creech, which he’s currently working to bring back.
The latest issue of Absolute Batman, number 18, will be released in comic shops and online on March 11, 2026.
