Brad Winderbaum, a key executive at Marvel Television, believes one of their Disney+ series could potentially continue for four more seasons. Initially, Marvel Studios typically limited its streaming shows to one or two seasons, like with titles such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Echo, and She-Hulk. However, Marvel has recently changed its approach, now planning for shows to have multiple seasons from the beginning.
During New York Comic Con last year, Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed that they’re already planning for a potential five seasons of the animated series X-Men ’97. He mentioned discussions are underway for both Season 4 and Season 5, and hinted at the possibility of even more seasons beyond that. This is a first for Marvel Studios, which hasn’t previously planned beyond four seasons for any of its live-action or animated shows on Disney+.
I was so excited to hear that Marvel Studios started planning a second season of X-Men ’97 way back in 2022, even before the first season came out! We’re all still eagerly waiting for that Season 2 (it’s scheduled for Disney+ in 2026), but it sounds like Marvel isn’t stopping there. They’re already thinking about seasons three, four, and even five! It’s amazing to see them planning so far ahead for the show.
A new Marvel show lasting five seasons would be a first for the studio since Agents of SHIELD ended its seven-season run in 2020. While Marvel released many TV series with the launch of Disney+, most didn’t get renewed for additional seasons, with What If…?, Loki, and WandaVision being the main exceptions.
Marvel TV Shows With Multi-Season Futures

Even though animated shows are generally less expensive to make than live-action ones, Marvel Studios’ plans for multiple seasons of X-Men ’97 – a critically acclaimed series – suggest the studio is shifting its focus towards longer, ongoing shows instead of limited series or standalone projects.
The recent revival of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ shows Marvel is eager to bring back its popular Netflix heroes. With the rights to these characters – known as the Defenders – now back with Marvel, it looks like the studio is fully committed to revisiting them and giving fans what they want.
The new Daredevil: Born Again series is now the main way Marvel characters from the Netflix shows are being integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones, and we can expect to see Luke Cage and Iron Fist reappear as well. Because the first season of Daredevil: Born Again was so well-received, a third season is already planned for 2025, before the second season even airs in March 2026. If this continues, Daredevil: Born Again could become a yearly event for the MCU, with seasons four and five looking likely.

Beyond that, the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series could lead to spin-off shows. The return of Jessica Jones in Season 2 is fueling speculation that Krysten Ritter’s character might get her own series, potentially starting to rebuild the shared TV universe that was popular on Netflix.
Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones had three seasons on Netflix. If a Jessica Jones revival is as well-received as the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, it’s likely Marvel Studios could bring it back for a similar number of seasons, or even more.

WandaVision was one of the first live-action series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it kicked off a connected set of shows. These include the spin-off Agatha All Along and the upcoming VisionQuest. Though not officially called new ‘seasons’ of WandaVision, these shows are viewed as a trilogy – a series of three related programs – sharing characters and storylines that all started with Marvel’s initial 2021 Disney+ series.
I see VisionQuest as almost a continuation of the story we loved, like a third season within this larger arc. Honestly, depending on how the 2026 show wraps things up, it feels like this could be the start of something really big for Marvel on TV – I’m so excited to see where it goes!
The upcoming series VisionQuest will center on White Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he tries to recover his lost memories and understand his purpose. The show will also bring back his adult son, Tommy Maximoff. Meanwhile, the Agatha All Along finale revealed that Billy Maximoff is searching for his brother, potentially leading to a future crossover event where the stories of VisionQuest and Billy’s search converge.

Beyond X-Men ’97, Marvel has also renewed Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man for two more seasons. This animated series offers a fresh take on Peter Parker’s origin story, showing his high school life and the beginning of his career as Spider-Man – a story many fans have always wanted to see.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited about how the Disney+ Spider-Man show being set in a different timeline opens up so many possibilities. It means they can bring in classic villains and team-ups with other heroes that we just won’t see in the movies. Honestly, it feels like this show could easily run for way more than three seasons – maybe even follow in the footsteps of X-Men ’97 and get a fourth and fifth season! The potential is just huge.

There’s talk of a new, unconfirmed Marvel series for Disney+ called X Academy, and Jeff Sneider suggests it’s currently being developed. The success of X-Men ’97 clearly demonstrates how popular the X-Men are with Marvel fans, especially now that Marvel Studios fully owns the rights and is incorporating them into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe after acquiring them from Fox.
Currently, a show called X Academy is just speculation, but it could be a great addition to Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie reboot. The show would likely focus on a high school setting and feature younger, less well-known mutant characters like Armor, Elixir, Dust, and Prodigy, introducing them to audiences alongside the main films.
Since Marvel Studios stopped making young adult shows like Runaways and Cloak & Dagger, a series focused on young mutants could be a great way to bring that type of content back. It also has the potential to become a regular yearly event for Marvel on television.
