Marvel Studios believes the hero featured in Avengers: Doomsday has incredible potential. The massive 2026 Avengers film will bring together a lot of new heroes who haven’t met before. In this new story, Earth’s heroes will have to team up with superpowered individuals from across the Marvel Multiverse to defeat the villain Doctor Doom.
Saving the day will definitely need some incredibly powerful heroes, such as Professor X, as played by Patrick Stewart, or Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. But one hero has already been confirmed to be exceptionally powerful, with seemingly unlimited abilities.
A new artbook, Fantastic Four: First Steps – The Art of the Movie, reveals that Marvel Studios considers Franklin Richards to be among the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, possibly even the most powerful. This information was shared by The Artbook Collector on YouTube.
So, about that ending with Franklin in the new Fantastic Four movie… producer Grant Curtis, who really knows his Marvel, let slip that it wasn’t just a throwaway scene. He told me it was a deliberate tease, a little wink at what could be coming down the line for this incredibly powerful kid. Basically, they’re laying the groundwork for Franklin’s absolutely massive potential, just like in the comics. It’s exciting to think about where they could take his story!
We were just subtly suggesting future storylines. We wanted to introduce the idea that Franklin has incredible, almost unlimited, potential, as comic book readers already understand, and hint at how that could be used in future Marvel Cinematic Universe stories.

Franklin Richards is a hugely important character in the Marvel Multiverse, as established in the comics. The recent movie hinted at his potential – specifically, when he brought Sue Storm back to life. There’s also been talk that he’ll be central to Doctor Doom’s plans in a future Avengers: Doomsday storyline.

Franklin possesses the incredible ability to reshape the Multiverse, essentially bending reality to his will. He’s so powerful, in fact, that even the universe-creating Celestials consider him their equal in Marvel Comics.
He was teased to play a significant role in Doomsday during Fantastic Four‘s post-credits stinger, in which a hooded Doom was caught seemingly kidnapping a now-toddler Franklin.
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026. Joining the superhero action is Franklin, alongside his family, the Fantastic Four: Sue Storm (played by Vanessa Kirby), Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Ben Grimm (Ebon-Moss Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn). The Fantastic Four are just one of several teams uniting to defeat Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the film.
How Will Franklin Richards Play Into Avengers: Doomsday?
Even though he’s very young – basically a toddler, as hinted at in the end credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps – Franklin Richards seems poised to play a major role in the upcoming Avengers film.
We’ve only seen a small part of what this character can do, like when he saved his mother in the final scenes of First Steps. It’s likely he’ll become even more powerful as he grows older and learns the full extent of his abilities.
As seen in the Fantastic Four storyline where Galactus sought a very powerful child, some beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are aware of this character’s incredible abilities. This knowledge appears to be what motivates Doctor Doom to confront the Fantastic Four in Avengers: Doomsday.
Apparently, Doctor Doom is tracking down individuals from alternate realities who don’t belong in our timeline. And who better to help him do that than Franklin, whose powers can manipulate reality itself?
The new movie might show that young Richard Richards is the key to Doctor Doom’s plans across the multiverse, explaining why Doom needs to capture him.
With Franklin Richards’ help, Doctor Doom can travel between realities and eliminate time-displaced characters, like the version of Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans.
