James Gunn, the mind behind “Peacemaker” series and joint leader of the DCU, has disclosed that Season 2 of this series will unfold following the appearance of Superman. It’s important to note that Superman, another creation of Gunn, marks the initial cinematic introduction within the DCU. Remarkably, the initial season of “Peacemaker” functions as a spin-off from the DCEU feature film The Suicide Squad (2021), while Season 2 is integrated into the broader DCU narrative.
How long after Superman does Peacemaker Season 2 take place?
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, during the discussion about Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn shared that the story unfolds one month after the Superman events. He mentioned, “The series is set a month following the Superman incidents… many familiar faces make a comeback… in the premiere episode, we encounter Guy Gardner and Maxwell Lord.
Significantly, Nathan Fillion portrayed Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in Superman, while Sean Gunn appeared as Maxwell Lord in the film on a brief visit.
Based on its timeline being just a few weeks following the events of Superman, it’s reasonable to expect that Peacemaker Season 2 will delve into the aftermath depicted in the movie. Furthermore, there’s a strong chance that the character’s derogatory comments about Superman from the film could have consequences for him within the series.
In a nutshell, Peacemaker Season 2’s logline indicates that the main character encounters another reality where life mirrors his dreams. However, this revelation compels him to confront his haunting past and assert control over his destiny.
For the second season, the ensemble features John Cena portraying both Chris Smith/Peacemaker and John Economos, Jennifer Holland playing Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Steve Agee in a dual role, and Frank Grillo taking on the character of Rick Flag Sr.
In simple terms, “Peacemaker Season 2” will be the third installment in the DC Universe following “Creature Commandos” and “Superman.” The second season is set to debut on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, with a total of eight episodes.
