Disney+ Omits 1 MCU Staple From Its 2026 Release Slate

In 2026, Marvel Studios has ambitious plans for Disney+, though one familiar feature will be missing. Disney+ has been crucial to the Multiverse Saga, serving as a platform for both animated and live-action streaming series and specials, and as the primary place to watch Marvel’s latest films a few months after they premiere in cinemas.

2026 will be a first for Marvel Studios since the start of Phase 4 in 2021 – it’s the only year without any new MCU movies immediately available on Disney+. Although Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday are both scheduled for release in theaters on July 31st and December 18th respectively, they won’t be streaming on Disney+ right away.

Marvel Studios realized its earlier strategy of quickly releasing movies on streaming didn’t maximize profits. They’ve now decided to keep films in theaters for a longer period – beyond 100 days. Originally, this would have meant Avengers 5 would start streaming in late March or May. However, Disney might want to follow the success of Avatar: The Way of Water and keep its biggest Marvel event since Endgame in cinemas for even longer.

Even though new Marvel Studios films won’t be available on Disney+ until 2027, you’ll still be able to watch some Marvel-related content. Thanks to Sony’s streaming agreements, movies connected to Spider-Man—like Venom: The Last Dance—arrive on Disney+ about 18 months after they’re on Netflix. Venom: The Last Dance is expected in late August, and Kraven the Hunter should follow in mid-September.

The deal also means fans won’t be able to stream Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Disney+ until 2028, after it appears on Netflix. More immediately, Spider-Man 4 will be the first Sony film to be available worldwide on Netflix as part of their new agreement.

Marvel fans can anticipate only one new movie on Disney+ in 2027: Avengers: Doomsday. However, 2028 will bring more content, including Avengers: Secret Wars and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

What MCU Releases Are Coming to Disney+ in 2026?

Although Marvel Studios won’t release any new movies on Disney+ this year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will still be active with several new live-action and animated series, plus a special presentation.

After releasing all episodes of Wonder Man at the start of the year, Daredevil: Born Again returns for its second season on March 24th. The new season will feature Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock battling Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk and his efforts to stop vigilantes, and episode 6 will include a significant reunion of characters from The Defenders.

After a four-year break, Marvel Studios is bringing back its popular special presentation format with a one-hour Disney+ event. This episode will feature Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher, and will lead into the events of the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline.

This fall, Marvel Studios will finish the story started in WandaVision with a new series called VisionQuest. Paul Bettany will return as Vision, and James Spader will reprise his role as Ultron. The series will explore a major idea from the WandaVision song, “Agatha All Along,” in a surprising new way.

Later this year, viewers can look forward to fresh animated episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in the fall. Before that, X-Men ’97 will return in the summer, leading up to the team’s appearance in the live-action film Avengers: Doomsday.
