It’s been nearly a decade since Rogue One dramatically changed the way we see the Star Wars universe. The 2016 film told the story of how the Rebel Alliance obtained the plans for the Death Star, and its characters quickly became fan favorites, leading to the successful TV series Andor. Now, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are teaming up to create a comic book series that explores the backstories of the film’s characters.
Ever since fans first saw the characters Cassian, Jyn, Saw, Baze, and Chirrut, they’ve been eager to learn more about their backgrounds and the sacrifices they made fighting the Galactic Empire. According to Robert Simpson, a senior editor at Lucasfilm, the story didn’t end with Rogue One, and they’re thrilled to finally share these new looks into the characters’ lives with fans.
What Star Wars: Rogue One characters are getting comics?
Marvel is releasing five comic books that tell the backstories of characters from the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. One comic will focus on Cassian Andor, while others will explore the histories of Jyn Erso, Chirrut and Baze, and Saw Gerrera. The last comic will show what Darth Vader was up to before he appeared in the film.
Beloved Star Wars artist David Marquez will create the cover art for each comic. We’re offering a sneak peek at three of Marquez’s covers, along with alternate versions by artists Walt Simonson and Josemaria Casanovas.

Marvel and Lucasfilm have announced details for the upcoming comic books that tell the story leading up to the film Rogue One, including summaries, who’s working on them, and when they’ll be released.
Star Wars: Rogue One – Cassian Andor #1
Leading up to the daring heist that sent shockwaves through the galaxy, a solitary Rebel spy ventures into a dangerous situation. In a gripping espionage story, Cassian Andor goes undercover in the chaotic world of Kafrene, desperately trying to stay ahead of Imperial troopers, bounty hunters, and a ticking clock. Written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Luke Ross, it will be available on May 6, 2026.
Star Wars: Rogue One – Jyn Erso #1
Life is harsh for Jyn Erso on the dangerous planet of Wobani, but her world is turned upside down when a desperate group asks a notorious hacker, Liana Hallik, to help them escape. Jyn must use all her skills to bypass Imperial defenses – including security droids, turrets, and fire – to unlock a vital code and protect a scared young captive. But can she also overcome the emotional wounds from her past involving Galen, Lyra, and Saw? Or will Wobani destroy her future before she can join the Rebellion? Written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Ramon Rosanas, and available June 3, 2026.
Star Wars: Rogue One – Saw Gerrera #1
Saw Gerrera fought bravely in the Clone Wars and remained dedicated to freedom. Now, he’s leading a dangerous mission into the heart of Imperial space to find information that could give the Rebels a crucial edge. But will obtaining this information come at too great a cost? This story is written by Marc Bernardin with art by Gabriel Guzman, and will be available in July 2026.
Star Wars: Rogue One – Chirrut & Baze #1
I’m really excited about this new Star Wars comic! It follows Baze and Chirrut as they try to sneak into an Imperial kyber crystal mine to mess with their operations. But, naturally, things don’t go as planned, and their mission gets way more difficult. It sounds like it’s going to be a story about how far they’ll go, and what sacrifices they’ll make, all while testing their beliefs. Stephanie Phillips is writing it, with art by Kieran McKowen, and it’s due out in August 2026 – I’ve already marked my calendar!
Star Wars: Rogue One – Darth Vader #1
I’m following the news about Director Krennic’s dealings with the planet Harreld, and things aren’t going well. Apparently, their leader, Harqque, won’t let the Empire mine the kyber crystals they need for the Death Star’s superlaser. But the Emperor isn’t happy about Krennic’s lack of progress. I just heard he’s sending Darth Vader himself to Harreld to get those crystals, no matter what it takes. This story is by Chris Condon, with art by Luke Ross, and it comes out in September 2026.
