Good news for fans of Game of Thrones! With the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms nearing its end, HBO is bringing back House of the Dragon. The network just released the official trailer for Season 3, marking its return after a two-year break.
Season 3 of House of the Dragon brings the conflict known as the Dance with Dragons back to Westeros. The show takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and about a century before A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, full-scale war has begun, and as author George R.R. Martin famously said, “If you dance with dragons, you must expect to burn.”

The Dance With Dragons Escalates In House of the Dragon Season 3
HBO’s House of the Dragon was created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, though Martin is no longer actively involved after disagreements with Condal. The series stars a large cast including Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Ewan Mitchell, Stephen Toussaint, Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Phia Saban, Matthew Needham, Ty Tennant, and Sonoya Mizuno.
This figure includes both traditional HBO viewers and those watching on HBO Max. It set a new record for the most people watching a single TV show in one day, which explains why HBO quickly decided to continue the series – and has renewed it two additional times since then.
House of the Dragon Proves Game of Thrones Is a Franchise That’s Here to Stay
Following the success of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon proved that George R.R. Martin’s world has the potential for a larger franchise. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has since been released to positive reviews and has already been picked up for another season.
Several more Game of Thrones spinoffs are being created, including a potential sequel series. The franchise has also expanded to the big screen with a new movie released this summer.
