Sean Bean’s Gritty Medieval Reboot Robin Hood Hits Digital Platforms

The popular title is now confirmed for digital release on almost all major platforms, and it’s coming very soon! However, this announcement still precedes the release of the eagerly awaited Season 2.

Fans who missed the MGM+ series Robin Hood will soon be able to watch it on digital platforms. Lionsgate will offer the series for digital purchase starting March 30th for $10.49.

Soon, you’ll be able to buy and download the entire series, giving you permanent access instead of just streaming it.

Lionsgate’s description of Robin Hood Season 1 tells the story of Robert of Locksley’s transformation from a young man into the famous outlaw leader. As he starts a rebellion in Sherwood Forest, secrets and a legendary tale begin to unfold.

Jonathan English and John Glenn created this story for MG+. It centers around Robin Hood, who seeks revenge for the death of his father, a Saxon man, killed by the Sheriff of Nottingham – a villain played by Sean Bean.

Throughout the show, Robin and his growing rebellion receive help from Marian of Huntingdon, played by Lauren McQueen. She works from inside the Norman elite to undermine her own people.

The series features Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon, Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, Marcus Fraser as Little John, and Angus Castle-Doughty as Friar Tuck, alongside Patten, McQueen, and Bean. Henry Rowley plays Will Gamewell, Erica Ford is Rosemary “Ralph” Miller, and Richard Lintern appears as the Bishop of Hereford.

When it comes out in 2025, Robin Hood is expected to be well-received by both critics and general audiences. Currently, the film has a 77% positive rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 81% approval rating from viewers, demonstrating its popularity.

Why Audiences Love Robin Hood from MGM+ According to the Creators

After the premiere of Robin Hood, one of the show’s creators, John Glenn, shared his thoughts on why viewers enjoyed it so much. He believes audiences were drawn to the fresh take on the classic tale, particularly because it explored Robin Hood’s beginnings while also offering unexpected perspectives on well-known characters.

Glenn noted that viewers are really connecting with the show’s emotional depth. He also highlighted how the love story between Rob and Marian resonates with people, thanks to its simplicity and beauty.

Glenn shared that they have a clear vision for the future of the series, promising a significant evolution. He described upcoming storylines as emotionally complex and engaging, with the show’s universe expanding considerably. He encouraged viewers to keep watching, hinting at many exciting developments to come and expressing hope they’ll be able to reveal those stories soon.

Despite being a hit on streaming, fans are still waiting to hear about a potential second season of Robin Hood. The digital release next month might give the show the boost it needs to get renewed by MGM+.
