I’m so excited about the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo movie on Netflix! The casting is really starting to come together, and while some people might be surprised by Mckenna Grace as Daphne, it felt pretty right to me. She’s fantastic – I recently saw her in Regretting You, and she’s perfect for this role! Plus, she’s the first actor announced, and she’s already giving off a really fun vibe for the whole project.
Though only 19, Grace is already a talented and impressive actress in both television and movies. While she first became known as a child actor, she’s recently expanded her range, including playing Lisa in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
Grace has consistently improved as a performer, but her work in Scooby-Doo is the first time she’s really demonstrated the talent that warranted her being cast in the first place.
Mckenna Grace “Predicted” Her Daphne Casting In 2024, And She Looks Great
In 2024, Grace—who previously voiced Young Daphne in the 2020 film Scoob!—shared a Halloween costume on social media. She dressed as Daphne, complete with a purple dress, green headscarf, and a red wig, and even lip-synced a line from the character for her fans.
Even before landing the part, Grace seemed naturally suited to the character. Years ago, she dressed up in a costume that hinted at the role, and she brought her dog – who was adorably dressed as Scooby-Doo – along for the fun. It wasn’t a direct prediction, but it’s clear Grace connected with the character from the start.
Mckenna Grace Showed Who Should Play Shaggy In Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Show

While Netflix hasn’t announced any other actors for its new Scooby-Doo series, Grace seemed to have someone in mind for the role of Shaggy. While dressed as Daphne for Halloween, she shared a photo on Instagram – simply captioned “Jeepers!” – featuring her Regretting You co-star, Mason Thames, dressed as Shaggy, alongside herself.
After starring as Finney Blake in the 2021 film The Black Phone, Mason Thames and Grace have been linked romantically following their work together on Regretting You. Although neither has confirmed the relationship, Grace seemingly supporting Thames for the role of Shaggy has sparked speculation among fans.
Everything We Know About Netflix’s Upcoming Scooby-Doo Series
Details are still limited, but we now have a clearer picture of the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series on Netflix. The show will consist of eight episodes, and Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are writing, running, and executive producing it, alongside Greg Berlanti and other industry professionals.
According to Variety, the new Scooby-Doo show on Netflix will center around Shaggy and Daphne getting caught up in a spooky mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy who may have seen a supernatural murder. The series will also explore the history of Shaggy and Daphne’s friendship, and introduce Velma as a local and Fred as the new kid in town, adding depth to the classic characters.
