Even though the first season of Mobland was a huge success, early news suggests the show’s return in 2026 will be even more compelling. While discussing his recent Netflix series, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, actor Emmet Scanlan was asked about his involvement in the second season of Mobland.
According to Scanlan, the second season of the Paramount+ show will be a much bigger and more intense version of the first. He promises even more surprising plot twists in the fast-moving crime series. Scanlan, who played Paul O’Donnell – Conrad Harrigan’s head of security – in season one, will be returning to the same role in the new season.
What Is MobLand About?
I’m really excited about Mobland, which is coming out in March 2025. The premise is fantastic: Pierce Brosnan plays an older gangster, Conrad Harrigan, who needs some help from a clever street criminal – that’s Tom Hardy’s character, Harry Da Souza, nicknamed ‘Fixer’. It looks like things get messy fast, with a brutal gang war erupting between Harrigan and the Stevenson family. And the cast is incredible! Helen Mirren and Paddy Considine are also on board, playing Conrad’s family members, Maeve and Kevin Harrigan. Season one is shaping up to be a must-see.
The first season of Mobland wrapped up nicely, providing a complete and satisfying story. However, the show has potential to grow, and a second season could explore even more. Featuring a strong cast including Scanlan, Luke Mably, Janet McTeer, and Jordi Mollà, the series offered a new perspective on the often-repeated gangster genre.
How MobLand Season 1 Was Received
While not as overtly funny as some of Guy Ritchie’s recent films, and avoiding the extreme darkness of many London crime shows, Mobland was well-received by critics when it first came out. The show proved to be a hit for Paramount+, attracting an impressive 26 million viewers during its first season.
While critics gave the show a respectable 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers were less impressed with the first season, giving it a score of only 66%. This could make it challenging for Mobland season 2 to attract viewers who didn’t enjoy the initial episodes.
Now that the initial setup is complete, season 2 of the series is shaping up to be much better. Like many crime shows, Mobland has a complex story with a lot of characters and details, and the first season spent a lot of time establishing its criminal world. Seeing how the Harrigan family operates was interesting, but it also took away from the main action.
MobLand Season 2 Can Be Even Better
With the introductions and setup done in season one, Mobland’s second season can really dive into the exciting world of Harry Harrigan and his family’s criminal activities. Although the first season wasn’t perfect, many of its problems were simply due to being a new show, and those issues should be resolved now.
Whether Mobland season 2 will attract as many viewers as its first season is still uncertain. But, based on what Scanlan shared in his Hello magazine interview, the future looks promising, and the most compelling parts of this gangster drama might still be ahead of us.
