Nearly ten years since its conclusion, the show remains unmatched in its impact. Now, NBC is hoping to recapture that success with a new group of potential series.
Following the success of Bones star David Boreanaz’s new show, NBC is greenlighting another series. Emily Deschanel, Boreanaz’s former Bones co-star, will lead the network’s upcoming drama pilot, created by Dean Georgaris (known for Quantum Leap) and John Fox (The Equalizer).
NBC commissioned a pilot episode in January, and it will be produced by Universal Television, a part of Universal Studio Group.
This new show centers around a groundbreaking psychologist who is changing how crimes are solved. Instead of focusing solely on the criminal, she looks closely at the victim to find hidden clues that others miss. Working with the FBI and her team, she tackles the most challenging and mysterious cases.
Zooey Deschanel will star as Professor Georgia Ryan, a character based on Dr. Ann Burgess, a real-life forensic nurse and renowned criminal profiler.
As a huge Bones fan, I was so excited to learn more about the real-life inspiration behind Temperance Brennan! It’s amazing to me that Dr. Brennan was based on Kathy Reichs, a real forensic anthropologist and author, who also helped bring the show to life as a producer. It really adds another layer of appreciation for the series, knowing it’s rooted in a fascinating true story.
Kathy Reichs is the author of a popular series of crime novels featuring Temperance Brennan. Interestingly, she also playfully incorporated herself into the TV show based on her books – the lead character in her novels is named Kathy Reichs.
NBC Is Setting Up a Bones Reunion
Zooey Deschanel’s new series follows her twelve seasons on Bones, where she also worked as a producer and even directed an episode in the show’s final season. She’s also appeared in The Rookie on ABC and Devil in Ohio on Netflix.
David Boreanaz is moving to NBC after appearing in several popular shows. He’s known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and most recently, SEAL Team where he played Jason Hayes.
Even though NBC doesn’t have a new show planned with them right now, if a series is ordered, the two actors will be working for the same network again. This would mark an unofficial reunion for the former Bones co-stars, nearly ten years after the show ended in 2017.
These casting announcements followed quickly after the show’s successful international debut on Netflix, confirming its continued popularity. With both actors now starring in promising new pilots for NBC, there’s a good chance this will bring renewed attention to the original series.
You can watch Bones on Hulu and Peacock. While a reboot of The Rockford Files starring Boreanaz and a new drama with Deschanel are in the works, their release dates haven’t been announced yet.
