New artwork reveals that Sydney Sweeney will play Power Girl in the upcoming DC Universe. Power Girl is an alternate version of Supergirl, a character portrayed by Milly Alcock (known for House of the Dragon) in James Gunn’s DCU. Milly Alcock first appeared as Supergirl in Superman last year and will star in her own Supergirl movie in 2026. Currently, there are no indications that Power Girl will be featured in that film.
Sydney Sweeney is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses. She’s known for her roles in popular shows like HBO’s Euphoria and The White Lotus, and films such as Anyone but You and The Housemaid. Because fans love her and think she’d be a great fit for the DC Universe, artists are creating images of her as different DC characters.
On DeviantArt, artist JosephCAW created an image showing how Sydney Sweeney might look as the DC superhero Power Girl.
Fan art depicts actress Sydney Sweeney as Power Girl, recreating iconic DC Comics cover poses. She’s shown in the character’s signature white suit and blue gloves, but with a twist: instead of the usual red cape, she’s wearing a red leather jacket, mirroring a look from the comic books that inspired the artwork.
Should Power Girl Appear In The DC Universe?
Before discussing who should play Power Girl, it’s more important to consider if introducing the character into the DCU right now is a good idea. Ideally, her debut should wait a few years, as Milly Alcock’s Supergirl needs time to establish herself first.
James Gunn’s DC Universe is already hinting at the possibility of exploring different realities. The first season of Peacemaker strongly suggested that Earth-2 and other universes will be featured in future projects, like the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow, and beyond. Because she’s a fan favorite, Power Girl is likely to be one of the first heroes from another universe to appear in the new DCU.
Why Sydney Sweeney Would Be Perfect As DC’s Power Girl
There’s no question that Sydney Sweeney would be fantastic as Power Girl. She not only looks the part – like she stepped straight out of the DC Comics pages – but she’s a talented actress who can truly bring the character to life, and she even has some experience with superhero roles.
Even though Madame Web wasn’t a good movie, the female Spider-People were definitely the highlight. Interestingly, DC has cast Isabela Merced, who played in Madame Web, as Hawkgirl, which means Sydney Sweeney could still join the DC Universe. Sweeney is prepared to do the physical work and training needed – as she demonstrated with her transformation for the movie Christy – if she gets the chance to play Power Girl.
Sydney Sweeney’s work in projects like Immaculate, The Housemaid, and The White Lotus shows she could brilliantly capture Power Girl’s strong and self-reliant personality. She’d be a fantastic counterpart to Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, who shares more similarities with Power Girl in this new DC Universe than the traditional version of Kara Zor-El. It’s still uncertain whether Sydney Sweeney will ultimately join the DC Universe as Power Girl or in another role.
