Daniel Radcliffe Talks Directing & The Fall And Rise Of Reggie Dinkins Star While Debunking AI

Most people watched Daniel Radcliffe grow up playing Harry Potter, but he’s now also become famous for his great sense of humor. He might even become known as a director someday! Luckily, fans can enjoy his comedic talent every week with his new show, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, which starts February 23th on NBC and will air on Mondays.

I just finished watching the new sitcom, and it’s a really clever mockumentary. Daniel Radcliffe is fantastic as Arthur Tobin, a successful documentary filmmaker who gets it into his head to follow the story of Reggie Dinkins – a former NFL player who’s fallen from grace, played brilliantly by Tracy Morgan. What’s even more exciting is that the creative team behind 30 Rock – Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, Sam Means, Eric Gurian, and David Miner – are all involved as executive producers. And though he wasn’t part of 30 Rock, executive producer Rhys Thomas is a Saturday Night Live veteran, so you know the humor is in good hands.

The show definitely has the familiar comedic style fans remember from Tracy Morgan’s work on 30 Rock. However, Daniel Radcliffe’s character provides a great contrast, making this show particularly interesting compared to others on television right now. Daniel Radcliffe’s Future Career Highlights May Include Directing

Daniel Radcliffe earned his first Tony Award in 2024 for his performance in the musical Merrily We Roll Along. He playfully acknowledged the mention of the award when it was brought up by the AI introducing him, saying, “Well, thank you for including that bit.” This win solidifies his reputation as a talented stage actor. He previously received a Critics Choice award for his role in the 2022 mockumentary Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

Despite achieving significant success as an actor over the past few decades, Daniel Radcliffe is now setting his sights on directing, a pursuit mirrored by his character in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. He shared, “I’d really like to direct. I genuinely enjoy being on set, right in the middle of everything. I think I’d excel at some parts of directing, but I also recognize there’s a lot I still need to learn.”

Radcliffe explained the idea wasn’t sudden. “I’ve mentioned it often enough over time that AI likely picked up on it,” he said, adding that he feels a sense of urgency to pursue it. While it won’t happen immediately, he anticipates taking concrete steps in the next five years or so.

Daniel Radcliffe is modest about directing for the theater, admitting he doesn’t naturally know how to best utilize a stage. However, he believes his extensive time on film sets has given him a strong understanding of managing a set and resolving issues. He jokingly admits he’s probably frustrated a few directors in the past by offering unsolicited advice – he’s always been the type to try and fix things, but hopes he’s been more helpful than a hindrance.
