Sam Raimi’s Send Help Just Pulled Off An Insane Domestic Box Office Feat In Its Third Weekend

As a huge fan of Sam Raimi, I was thrilled to see him return to genuine horror with Send Help – it’s been 16 years! The movie really took off this winter, earning amazing scores on Rotten Tomatoes and doing incredibly well in theaters. It’s so refreshing to see an original thriller for adults connect with both critics and audiences, but the fact that it kept performing so well, especially into its third weekend, really proves this film is something special. It’s a great sign for horror, honestly!

The movie Send Help, starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, was a big hit when it first came out, staying at number one in the US box office for two weeks. It earned over $19.1 million during its opening weekend and another $9 million the following week. Like most movies after a wide release, Send Help was shown in fewer theaters starting in its third week, playing in almost 3,000 theaters across North America.

Typically, a movie’s earnings at the box office fall considerably—usually by 40 to 60%—after the first couple of weeks. But the film Send Help did something unexpected: it continued to perform well into its third weekend, proving remarkably resilient and earning it some of the best long-term performance numbers of any recent movie.

Send Help’s Domestic Box Office Haul Dropped Less Than 1% In Its Third Week

I’ve been following the box office numbers for Send Help, and it’s doing amazingly well! After making $9.046 million last weekend, it’s predicted to earn around $8.968 million this weekend. What’s really incredible is that’s barely a drop – just about 0.08% – which is almost unheard of for a thriller like this. Even more impressive, it lost about 500 theaters, but actually made 16% more per theater this weekend! It’s a really promising sign.

After three weeks, Send Help has earned $49.6 million domestically and $73.8 million globally. Considering its $40 million budget, the film is expected to more than double its production costs, making it a clear win for Disney and 20th Century. While the star power of Rachel McAdams, William H. Macy, and director Sam Raimi contributed to its success, positive reviews and the film’s shareable, meme-worthy moments also drove strong word-of-mouth.

Send Help’s Box Office Should Convince Studios To Invest In Adult Thrillers

I’m really surprised and excited to see Send Help do so well! It’s the second adult thriller in a row to totally beat expectations at the box office, which is awesome. I remember when Paul Feig’s The Housemaid came out around Christmas 2025 – it had a similar vibe, with a popular director, a great cast, and wasn’t super expensive to make (around $35 million). That one did incredibly well, bringing in over $360 million, and it definitely helped that it was a big adult release during the holidays!

As a movie fan, I’m really excited by the success of Send Help. It came out in January – usually a slow month for theaters – and killed it! This proves that The Housemaid‘s success wasn’t just a lucky break. It shows there’s still a real audience for smart, thrilling movies that aren’t huge blockbusters. If a good movie gets the right marketing, people will show up, and it can be a really smart investment for studios.

I have to say, Sam Raimi really stepped in and saved the day for “Send Help.” Apparently, Sony was planning to dump it straight to streaming, but Raimi refused to let that happen. He took it to 20th Century Studios instead, and they gave it a proper theatrical release. It’s already looking like a smart move for them, and I’m hoping it encourages other studios to take a chance on genuinely thrilling, adult-oriented movies like this one.
