Be warned, this contains spoilers for episode 7 of Tell Me Lies season 3. The show Tell Me Lies has captivated audiences worldwide with its dramatic twists and turns. As the season nears its end, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer is speaking out to explain the choices made by the character Lucy Albright.
Premiering in 2022, Tell Me Lies is a Hulu series created by Oppenheimer, inspired by the novel of the same name. The show spans eight years and explores the complex relationships of a group of college friends. At its core, it centers on Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) and the destructive impact their unhealthy, intertwined relationship has on them and those around them.
In a recent interview with Decider, actress Kate Oppenheimer discussed the upcoming series finale and defended her character, Lucy. Lucy is dealing with the fallout from her choices and still struggling with the aftermath of her toxic relationship with Stephen. Oppenheimer wants to clarify who’s truly at fault before the final episode, titled “Are You Happy Now, That I’m On My Knees?”, airs, as fans are debating who’s more to blame.
By the end of the season, I expect people will be asking if they’re finally satisfied with how things have gone. I believe the calls for Lucy to be punished started immediately, and I don’t think she deserves it. Frankly, any punishment she receives will be excessive. I wish those who want to see her punished would consider why they judge female characters more harshly than male ones. There’s a clear double standard – people are much more critical of Lucy than they are of Stephen, and that’s just not fair.
The series finale of the show suggests Lucy will face even more difficult challenges. While it was initially announced as the end of the series, the show’s popularity leaves the possibility of a fourth season open. The final episode will center around a scandal at Baird College, with major revelations and repercussions for all involved.
In episode 7, Lucy is visibly distressed and upset. A particularly sad scene shows her looking at an old portrait of herself from when she first arrived at Baird, contrasted with her current, subdued state. She desperately pleads with Stephen to give up the tape, hoping it will finally end her suffering and guilt. Surprisingly, he does hand it over, but because she’s been struggling with memory problems and confusion, it’s uncertain if this actually happened.
Lucy’s future is uncertain with Stephen still plotting trouble, but the last episode will definitely be filled with emotional moments and intense drama.
Tell Me Lies season 3, episode 8 will arrive on Hulu on February 17.
