James Gunn’s Superman movie contained a hidden reference to Bruce Wayne that fans didn’t discover until months later. As the story of the new DC Universe develops, including details about the new Superman (David Corenswet), people are eager to see other heroes like Batman join the team. Although that might be a ways off, James Gunn – who co-leads DC Studios – is already starting to plan for it.
Beth Mickle, the production designer for Superman, recently revealed a hidden detail hinting at Bruce Wayne’s future role in the DC Universe. In the book Superman: The Art and Making of the Film, Mickle mentioned books featured in Lois Lane’s apartment, specifically one called Shaping the World Order, as a subtle clue.

Set decorator Rosemary Brandenburg created this book, among other items, to flesh out the world of James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Titled Shaping the World Order, the book focuses on major corporations within the DCU, such as LuthorCorp, Stagg Industries, and Wayne Enterprises, according to Mickle.

This marks the first time a live-action DC Universe project has clearly signaled Bruce Wayne’s important role, even though an actor hasn’t been chosen to play him yet. Batman briefly appeared in the animated series Creature Commandos, but it was just a quick glimpse through a window during a flashback about Dr. Phosphorus.
Superman is the first movie to be released under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios. The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, alongside Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, and shows his beginnings as both a hero and a reporter. It focuses on his early challenges and his first big conflict with Lex Luthor and other villains. You can watch Superman on HBO Max.
Batman’s Future in James Gunn’s DC Universe

So, a Batman alongside David Corenswet’s Superman is still a ways off, it seems. James Gunn dropped a few hints about who they’re considering for the role, and we’re expecting to see this Batman first in The Brave and the Bold. The bad news? That film is still very much in the early stages of development, so don’t hold your breath just yet.
Good news for Batman fans! Gotham City will be introduced into the new DC Universe (DCU) sooner than expected, thanks to a Clayface movie starring Tom Rhys Harries, scheduled for 2026. This film will not only be Clayface’s first live-action appearance, but it will also be the first time we truly see Gotham City brought to life in the DCU, with on-set photos already revealing many iconic locations from the classic DC comics.
A recent nod to Superman suggests that Wayne Enterprises will be a successful, established company when Bruce Wayne appears in DC films. When he does, he’s expected to already be a seasoned hero – the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold will reportedly show him as a father to his energetic son, Damian Wayne.
