Taylor Sheridan is bringing together a fantastic cast for his new Western show, but one of his regular actors isn’t saying if they’ll be involved.
Starring Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, The Madison follows the Clyburn family as they leave New York City for Montana after a difficult loss. They hope to find peace and reconnect with each other. The cast also includes Patrick J. Adams (known from Suits), Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox (Lost), Beau Garrett (The Good Doctor), Amiah Miller, Kevin Zegers, and Will Arnett.
James Jordan, known for appearing in five Taylor Sheridan series, recently spoke with ScreenRant about the Landman season finale. When asked about a possible role in the upcoming Western series, The Madison, Jordan playfully avoided giving a direct answer. He said he couldn’t confirm or deny his involvement, adding that he wanted to keep fans guessing.
On a brighter note, Jordan shared that he immediately agrees to any request Taylor Sheridan makes. He described his working relationship with Sheridan as similar to the dynamic between his and Billy Bob Thornton’s characters in Landman. Jordan also highly praised Sheridan, calling him both a wonderful person and a talented artist, and expressed his gratitude for being a frequent collaborator in Sheridan’s projects.
I’m truly honored to be involved. It’s funny, when Taylor Sheridan first approached me about ‘Lioness’ and ‘Landman,’ I didn’t even know what role he had in mind or what the stories were about. He simply asked if I was interested, and I immediately said yes – I trust him completely and would do anything he asks. That’s always been my experience working with Taylor. I’m sure there will be other opportunities to play interesting characters with him in the future, but right now I’m fully focused on ‘Landman’ and ‘Lioness’.
Since the 2017 thriller Wind River, Kevin Costner has consistently worked with Taylor Sheridan for the past decade. He’s starred in five of Sheridan’s popular TV shows, including Yellowstone, its prequel 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, the new series Landman, and the action-thriller Lioness. Costner also appeared in Sheridan’s most recent film, Those Who Wish Me Dead, which starred Angelina Jolie.

Despite being busy with other projects starring Billy Bob Thornton and Zoe Saldaña, Jordan may have been able to film a role in The Madison. The first season of this Western drama was filmed between August and December 2024, fitting neatly between the completion of season two of Lioness (also in August 2024) and the start of season two of Landman (which began in April 2025).
If Jordan doesn’t appear in the new series, The Madison, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s been left out of a project created by Taylor Sheridan. While he had another chance with the franchise in the 2021 prequel, his Yellowstone character, Steve Hendon, was quietly removed after season 3. He also wasn’t in the prequel 1923, and hasn’t been announced for the upcoming shows Marshals or The Dutton Ranch. Plus, he hasn’t had a role in the first three seasons of Tulsa King.
I’m really intrigued by what James Sheridan is cooking up with The Madison. He’s calling it a more personal project, and it makes me wonder what kind of character he’ll write for himself, Jordan. He’s always played these tough, working-class guys, but this more emotionally driven series feels like a chance for him to really stretch as an actor. I’m picturing a role connected to the Clyburn family that could allow him to showcase a completely different side of himself – a chance to reveal some real depth and nuance we haven’t seen before.
The Madison season 1 premieres on Paramount+ on March 14.
