Taylor Sheridan’s Underrated Action Series Will Be The Biggest Yet As Star Offers Season 3 Filming Update

Though James Jordan has finished his work on Landman, he’s continuing to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan on the revival of one of the creator’s lesser-known but exciting action shows.

Lioness, an action series full of espionage, premiered in July 2023 and stars Zoe Saldaña as Joe McNamara, a high-ranking CIA officer in charge of an undercover counter-terrorism team. After a successful second season with higher ratings and positive reviews, Paramount+ announced a third season in August 2025, and filming began in October.

During a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns about the Landman season 2 finale, Jordan discussed the progress of Lioness season 3. Having worked with Taylor Sheridan for ten years, the actor shared that they have around six weeks of filming remaining on the new season of the action series. He added that he’s currently focused on his role in Lioness, rather than the recently announced Landman season 3.

Discussing the show’s upcoming season, Jordan started with a laugh, praising all of Taylor Sheridan’s shows as “magnificent” and jokingly admitting he’d love to be involved in all of them if he could find the time. He then highlighted Lioness as Sheridan’s most ambitious project yet, remembering the extensive filming locations of season one – including Mallorca, Morocco, and the East Coast – and noting that season two takes things even further with exciting aerial action.

As a huge fan of the show, I was really thrilled with Season 2! They took the action to a whole new level by adding aerial combat. It wasn’t just about adding helicopters, though – they brought in some incredibly skilled pilots and really showcased their abilities, making those scenes truly spectacular.

Jordan shared that season 3 of Lioness will be even more expansive in scope than previous seasons. While filming was taking place in North Texas, the storyline will take the characters—and viewers—around the globe. Describing the new episodes as “fantastic,” Jordan explained that the season will delve deeper into the motivations and unwavering loyalty of the people involved and provide a closer look at their lives and why they are so dedicated to Joe.

James Jordan believes strong writing that delves into character is what audiences truly want. Viewers connect with a character and then become invested in understanding their motivations and inner lives. Taylor, as an actor, shares this focus on character development over simply following the plot – and the creators agree. They prioritize exploring what drives these characters, believing that’s what keeps audiences engaged and returning for more, and they’re eager to continue doing so.

Jordan plays Two Cups, a seasoned special operations soldier, in the series Lioness. He’s a vital member of Joe’s Quick Reaction Force team, working alongside characters played by Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, Austin Hébert, and Jonah Wharton. Throughout the first two seasons, Two Cups has demonstrated impressive tactical abilities. The season two finale was particularly dangerous for him – during a mission to Iran to eliminate two nuclear scientists, he was seriously wounded by gunfire. Fortunately, he and the team survived thanks to arriving reinforcements.

Details about what will happen in Lioness season 3 are still a secret, but the show is adding some familiar faces. Elizaveta Neretin and Ian Bohen, both known from other Taylor Sheridan shows, are joining the cast. Bohen, who starred in Mayor of Kingstown, will have a recurring role as a contact for the main character, Joe, during a new assignment. Neretin, previously seen in Yellowstone and Wind River, will be a series regular playing a strict Delta Force operator who works with military dogs.

Although Jordan didn’t reveal much about season 3 of Lioness, his comments suggest Taylor Sheridan is building on the lessons learned from the show’s initially controversial first season. He seems to be prioritizing character development while also increasing the scope of the action. Season 2 successfully balanced overseas action and intense shootouts with a deeper look into Joe’s personal life, offering more depth than the first season.

Jordan has hinted that season 3 will focus heavily on Joe’s QRF team, and it will be fascinating to see if characters like Two Cups and Tucker get more development in their personal stories. So far, the show has only revealed that Max Martini’s character, Tracer, has a past relationship with Bobby. Aside from Joe, we haven’t learned much about the personal lives of the other characters, giving Sheridan an opportunity to explore those areas in the upcoming season.

Another key update about season 3 of Jordan’s Lioness is that filming is almost complete, with only about a month left. Considering how long it took to release previous seasons after filming finished, we might see this exciting series return before summer ends. However, with Taylor Sheridan busy preparing for the premieres of The Madison and the Yellowstone spin-off Marshals, Paramount+ might decide to release Lioness later in 2026 instead.
