DC Studios recently unveiled the logo for the upcoming Supergirl movie, but fans have quickly noticed a problem. The film, slated for release in 2026, is one of the first major projects from James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, following Supergirl (played by Milly Alcock) appearing briefly in Superman (2025). As promotion for Supergirl gets underway with a release date of June 26th, the new logo has been pointed out as being very similar to the logo of another DCU film.
The new logo for Supergirl includes the well-known Kryptonian “S” symbol, with the name “Supergirl” written above it in a style that looks like spray paint. It’s a striking design that complements Supergirl’s outfit and color scheme. Interestingly, the logo also shares similarities with the logo of another DC hero, Superman.

The updated Superman logo, first seen in the 2025 DC Universe film, was featured in all promotional materials and on David Corenswet’s costume. Although Superman and Supergirl have traditionally shared similar “S” emblems, the logos for their respective films are identical except for the character’s name.

Superman and Supergirl have appeared together in TV shows and movies before, but the upcoming DC Universe will feature both heroes with very similar emblems.
In The CW’s Arrowverse, both Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) had logos that were slightly different to highlight their individual identities as heroes. While Supergirl’s symbol used the same ‘S’ shape, it didn’t have the yellow center that made Superman’s logo instantly recognizable.

Both Superman (Henry Cavill) and Supergirl (Sasha Calle) in the DCEU had slightly different versions of their iconic logos. Superman’s logo featured a metallic red color with gold accents, while Supergirl’s was a richer red filled with a light blue shade.

The new DC Universe is choosing to keep Supergirl and Superman’s logos identical. While this makes sense within the story – the ‘S’ symbol represents their shared Kryptonian background – it hinders their individual identities. Using the same logo makes them seem like they could be switched without anyone noticing, rather than establishing them as distinct heroes.

The new DCU film, releasing on June 26th, will tell Supergirl’s origin story, inspired by the comic book arc Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The movie follows Kara and her friend Ruthye as they travel across the galaxy seeking revenge. Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, alongside Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Eve Ridley, in the film directed by Craig Gillespie.
Supergirl’s Logo Is A Double-Edged Sword
The design of the Supergirl logo is a bit of a double-edged sword. While it closely resembles Superman’s, that connection also brings positive feelings from the successful 2025 movie. Superman was a hit with audiences when it came out last year and is considered a great beginning for the new DC Universe.
The shared symbol confirms that Supergirl exists within the same universe as other DC superheroes, and could even mean the movie is a follow-up to the 2025 DC Studios film.
The positive buzz around Superman could actually help build excitement for Supergirl’s first major movie since 1984, drawing audiences in by capitalizing on the popularity of its predecessor.
As much as I appreciate the visual connections being made within the new DCU, I’m a little worried about Supergirl’s identity. While everything else about the 2026 film looks fresh and exciting, using the same symbol as Superman feels like it’s holding her back. I really want her to feel like her own hero, with a distinct voice, and right now, she risks getting lost in his shadow. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference in how unique she feels.
