New Thriller Sparks Intense 7-Figure Bidding War Before Landing At A24 With Major A-Lister In Talks To Star

A24 won a competitive bidding process and is now developing a new erotic thriller. Discussions are underway to cast major stars, with Nicole Kidman among those being considered for roles.

Nicole Kidman has worked with A24 before, starring in their 2024 erotic thriller, Babygirl. The film received a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance. Babygirl also proved to be a box office success, earning over $50 million.

According to Deadline, British actor Dylan Brady has achieved a Hollywood dream by writing a script that sparked a bidding war. Originally called Discretion, the script will be retitled to avoid conflict with a similar show starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning. Nine studios – including Netflix, Amazon, Apple, and FX – were interested in purchasing it. Brady had previously discussed the script with Deadline a few months earlier.

Jacob, a struggling actor, gets a lucky break when he’s hired as a nanny for a powerful Hollywood producer and her famous actor husband. He plans to win their favor – and use their connections to boost his own career – but he soon realizes he’s been caught in a dangerous scheme.

Brady explained the idea for the story came from a friend’s experience working as a housekeeper for a wealthy couple and becoming deeply involved in their personal lives. He mentioned the films Fatal Attraction and Eyes Wide Shut as influences.

Traditionally, erotic thrillers have focused almost entirely on heterosexual relationships, where the main goal is to protect the marriage from an outside threat. I started wondering what that story would look like today. What if the ‘villain’ was actually the hero, and the problem lay within the marriage itself? I wanted to challenge that old formula and tell the story through a queer perspective.

A24 has purchased the rights to the project with a multi-million dollar offer, effectively ending the bidding war. They’re now considering Nicole Kidman and other prominent actors for the lead roles in the upcoming erotic thriller. The film’s title and story will be refined during pre-production.

We don’t know yet when A24 will release details about its upcoming erotic thriller, but Nicole Kidman is well-versed in the genre. This comes as erotic thrillers are becoming popular again, like the new Netflix series Hancock Park featuring Regé-Jean Page from Bridgerton.
