‘American Horror Story’s Emma Roberts Will Lead Freaky New Movie

It seems dark roles keep finding Emma Roberts! After first playing the witch Madison Montgomery on American Horror Story: Coven 13 years ago – a role she later revisited in the Apocalypse series – Roberts is now set to star as Alice Lincoln in the upcoming film A Body in the Woods, according to Deadline.

The new horror film comes from Dave Caplan, the producer behind successful movies like Longlegs and The Monkey, and director Stephen Cognetti. Filming begins in September, and the story centers on Alice, who is haunted by a terrifying, laughing entity while guarding the body of an unknown miner in a secluded cabin. The plot follows Alice as strange occurrences lead her to believe the corpse isn’t truly dead, and the arrival of a mysterious woman near the forest pushes her into a terrifying reality where evil lurks both inside the cabin and just beyond her door.

Cognetti went on to say about his main star:

Emma is a remarkably intelligent and brave performer who makes every project better. She truly understands what makes horror effective – the delicate balance between fear, strength, and feeling exposed. With A Body in the Woods, I aim to create a sophisticated horror film that pushes the boundaries of fear, not only for the character on screen, but for everyone watching. I want viewers to leave the theater feeling deeply disturbed, questioning what they’ve experienced, and like they’ve just gone through something harrowing.

Caplan expressed his excitement about the upcoming collaboration between Cognetti and Roberts, calling the film a guaranteed success.

The Standout Movies from Emma Roberts’ Career

FX

For the past 25 years, Roberts has been building an acting career, starting with a role as the young daughter of Johnny Depp’s character in the movie Blow. Penélope Cruz played her mother in that film – quite a memorable way to begin in Hollywood, wouldn’t you say?

After gaining attention, Roberts landed the lead role as Nancy Drew in the 2007 comedy-drama, adapted from the popular mystery novels by Edward Stratemeyer. She continued to build her career with notable parts in films like Wild Child, Valentine’s Day, Scream 4, We’re the Millers, Billionaire Boys Club, The Hunt, and Holidate. However, her 2024 film Madame Web, despite being a critical failure, is likely the most discussed project of her career to date.

Roberts played Mary Parker, Spider-Man’s uncle’s pregnant sister-in-law. However, what was expected to be a good role in a popular series became a difficult experience, as the movie Madame Web received a lot of criticism and jokes online. Roberts believes the negative reaction on social media is a major reason why the film didn’t do well.
