‘The Testaments’ Cast & Characters – Who’s Who in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Spin-off

Just under a year after The Handmaid’s Tale ended in May 2025, Hulu will release the first sequel series, The Testaments, in April 2026. Set five years after the original show, this new dystopian story follows a group of young women as they come of age and try to survive within Gilead’s strict and controlling government. The series will feature a fresh cast of promising young actors.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, the new series The Testaments features both new and familiar actors. All three of the first episodes will be available to stream on Hulu starting April 8, 2026, so here’s a look at the cast and the characters they’ll be playing in this eagerly awaited sequel.

Chase Infiniti as Agnes Mackenzie

Chase Infiniti, recently recognized for her performance in One Battle After Another, will star in Hulu’s The Testaments this April. She plays Agnes Mackenzie, a young woman leading a new group of women in the oppressive society of Gilead, who begins to discover her identity and a difficult truth about her future. Realizing the danger she faces, Agnes sparks a rebellion and resolves to dismantle Gilead’s restrictive system. While the story is set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments picks up the narrative five years later.

Lucy Halliday as Daisy

As a huge fan of The Handmaid’s Tale universe, I’m really excited about The Testaments and Lucy Halliday’s performance as Daisy. She plays this seemingly normal Canadian teen whose world gets completely turned upside down when she discovers her family’s connection to Gilead. It’s fascinating to see her character, and others like her, realize they’re not alone and band together. Daisy is determined to fight for freedom and prevent other women from being trapped in a life of servitude. And it’s brilliant how they’ve connected Daisy and Agnes to June Osborne – Elisabeth Moss might even make an appearance, which would be incredible!

Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite

Rowan Blanchard (known from Snowpiercer) plays Shunammite, a privileged teenager who benefits from her family’s powerful position in Gilead. Shunammite is treated with reverence by the young women forced into servitude, inspiring both fear and respect from others. However, this special treatment also breeds resentment, creating complications for those trying to overthrow the government and liberate the next generation of female servants.

Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia Clements

Ann Dowd, known for her role in Hereditary, will return as Aunt Lydia Clements, a powerful figure who runs the school for girls in Gilead. While understanding how cruel the Gilead regime is, Lydia intends to make significant changes from within, and begins to believe that a complete overhaul – even a revolution – might be the only way to defeat it. The future of Gilead’s system of control over women – particularly through young women like Agnes, Daisy, and Lydia’s other students – could be at risk by the end of the series.

Mattea Conforti as Becka


Hulu

Mattea Conforti, known for her role in NOS4A2, plays Becka in The Testaments. Becka is a student from a working-class background who goes to school with the children of Gilead’s leaders. As she grows up, she begins to wonder if the life planned for her is what she truly wants. Considering the story’s main conflict, it’s likely Becka will resist being forced into a life of servitude and will instead join Agnes and Daisy in their rebellion.

In April 2025, Deadline announced nine new performers, including:

  • Mabel Li (He Had it Coming) portrays Aunt Vidala, a strict taskmaster who stands to inherit the women’s sphere of Gilead.
  • Amy Seimetz (Sweet Tooth) as Paula, a woman in Gilead whose status alters after marrying a high-ranking commander, but her privilege is threatened by her new step-daughter.
  • Brad Alexander (You) as Garth, a green Commander who becomes invested in the lives of the young women he’s charged with looking after.
  • Zarrin Danell-Martin (Ginny & Georgia) as Aunt Gabbana, a staunch defender of Gilead’s enslavement program that serves as Aunt Vidala’s second-in-command.
  • Eva Foote (Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy) as Aunt Estee, the youngest Aunt who relates to the girls with kindness and a cool vibe, making her more of a friend than an authority figure.
  • Isolde Ardies (Wayward) as Hulda, a naive, bright-eyed optimist whose enthusiasm for entering womanhood allows her to make several friends.
  • Shechinah Mpumlwana (The Fire Inside) as Jehosheba, a cuthroat student with a competitive streak who comes from a well-respected family that will stop at nothing to see her married to an elite.
  • Birva Pandya (The Institute) as Miriam, a girl on the brink of womanhood who struggles to understand Gilead’s marriage policies.
  • Kira Guloien (Robyn Hood) as Rosa, a loving, warm-hearted, watchful parental figure to Agnes, who is dedicated to caring for her charge no matter what.
