I’ve noticed over the last twenty years that Liam Neeson has really nailed the role of the tough, seasoned action guy, and his latest film is no exception. He’s fantastic alongside Joe Keery, who I love from Stranger Things, and Georgina Campbell (great in Barbarian!), as they try to save the world in Cold Storage. What’s really cool is that it’s gotten some of the best reviews he’s seen in almost ten years – it’s great to see him getting that recognition!
This time, the danger isn’t criminals like Liam Neeson usually faces. Instead, it’s a deadly, fast-spreading fungus that breaks loose from a frozen storage facility. Two employees, Keery and Naomi, must fight to contain it, and they’ll need help from Neeson’s character, a retired expert in biological threats, to prevent a global disaster.
Launching on February 13th, and going up against Emerald Fennell’s upcoming take on Wuthering Heights, Cold Storage is already getting positive attention. It currently boasts a 91% score on the Tomatometer – Liam Neeson’s best since 2018 and significantly higher than most of his recent action films. While Neeson plays a supporting role, critics are particularly impressed with the lead performances from Keery and Campbell.
One of the things that really works for the horror-comedy is its brisk 99-minute length. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and keeps the story from becoming repetitive. Nate Richard of Collider called it a “perfect length” for the genre, and David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter noted the film wisely avoids taking itself too seriously. Ultimately, critics agree that Cold Storage delivers on its promise of fun, gory, and silly entertainment, much like Shaun of the Dead, and remains highly enjoyable from beginning to end.
Cold Storage Is Another Comedy Break for Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson became a popular action star after the movie Taken, consistently entertaining audiences even if critics weren’t always impressed. But his recent turn in The Naked Gun revealed a hidden talent for comedy, proving he’s just as good at making people laugh.

Liam Neeson recently proved his knack for action-comedy with his role as Frank Drebin Jr., and his new film, Cold Storage, continues that trend, blending his tough persona with excellent comedic timing. This type of role seems ideal for him as he takes on fewer intense action films. His upcoming movie, 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank, will maintain a similar lighthearted feel, focusing on crime instead of horror, with Neeson playing a grandfather pulled back into a life of crime for one final heist. However, Neeson isn’t abandoning action entirely; he has seven more action thrillers in development, including Hotel Tehran with Zachary Levi and The Mongoose with Marisa Tomei.
