The 1987 legal thriller Suspect, featuring Liam Neeson, Cher, and Dennis Quaid, is suddenly gaining popularity on streaming services, almost forty years after it first came out.

I remember when Suspect first came out – it was a pretty solid courtroom drama, nothing groundbreaking, but definitely better than average. It got a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, which was good! But honestly, I’m shocked to see it’s suddenly become a huge hit on streaming now, almost 40 years later, considering it didn’t do amazingly in theaters back then. It’s a really pleasant surprise!

Directed by Peter Yates and written by Eric Roth, the film Suspect earned about $18.7 million despite having a budget of only $14.5 million. It came out during a wave of similar courtroom thrillers in the 80s and, while not terrible, didn’t really distinguish itself from the others. Critics praised the acting, especially the performances by Cher and Dennis Quaid. However, many viewers felt the film’s surprising twist ending ultimately weakened it.

The movie Suspect rose quickly in popularity on Tubi this week, reaching the #3 spot on the platform’s list of most-watched movies in the U.S. as of today.

She works with a juror named Eddie Sanger (Dennis Quaid) to investigate, and they uncover surprising truths about how justice works in the city.

Even though it first came out almost 40 years ago, the film Suspect is gaining popularity on streaming services, proving that older movies can still attract new fans. With strong performances from Liam Neeson, Cher, and Dennis Quaid, a gripping story, and now easy access through streaming, it’s no surprise a new generation is discovering and enjoying Suspect.
