Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date for the Clayface movie, a horror film planned as part of the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
When is Clayface’s new release date?
Clayface is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 23, 2026. The release date has been moved to be closer to Halloween, instead of the previously planned September 11, 2026.
The upcoming film, described as a scary and unsettling thriller, will follow a struggling actor known for low-budget horror movies. He resorts to injecting himself with an experimental substance in a desperate attempt to revive his career. The story focuses on a DC Comics character created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, who has the power to change his shape.
Clayface is a frequent enemy of Batman in DC Comics, sparking rumors about whether Batman will appear in the new DC Universe film. While there hasn’t been an official announcement or any casting news, some clues – like photos from the set showing a building labeled “Wayne Community Center” – suggest Batman will play a role in the story.
James Watkins is directing a new Clayface movie, with Tom Rhys Harries playing the iconic Batman villain. The screenplay is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Watkins has previously directed films like Eden Lake (2008), The Woman in Black (2012), Bastille Day (2016), and Speak No Evil (2024), and also worked as a second unit director on The Descent Part 2 (2009).
