M. Night Shyamalan’s Nicholas Sparks Movie With Jake Gyllenhaal Just Became a Holiday Event

Nicholas Sparks, known for his popular romance novels, is collaborating with director M. Night Shyamalan on a new supernatural love story called Remain. The film will feature Jake Gyllenhaal and is scheduled to be released during the holiday season.

The movie Remain is now scheduled to be released on February 5, 2027. Warner Bros., the film’s distributor, chose this date because early ticket sales have been very promising. The release was initially planned for October 2026.

Though the film is based on Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights and contains intense themes, it’s being promoted as a romance. It arrives in theaters on February 13th, right before Valentine’s Day. Many are predicting that this new project from Sparks, a suspenseful love story with supernatural elements, will appeal to fans of Wuthering Heights.

As a huge movie fan, I’ve definitely noticed a pattern: Nicholas Sparks is the king of making me cry with stories that become really popular films. Think A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, Dear John, The Lucky One, and Safe Haven – I always need tissues! On a completely different note, M. Night Shyamalan consistently delivers thrillers that stick with you, like Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense, and his latest, Trap, seems to be continuing that trend.

According to the outlet, Remain has received the highest test scores of Shyamalan’s career.

The series Remain centers on Tate Donovan, a New York architect who travels to Cape Cod to design a summer house for a friend. He’s hoping for a new beginning after recently leaving a psychiatric facility where he received treatment for severe depression.

I’m really intrigued by this story. It seems like Donovan is still hurting after losing his sister, and then he meets Wren, who completely shakes up his carefully ordered life. She makes him question everything he thought he knew – it sounds like a really compelling setup!

Jake Gyllenhaal will star alongside Phoebe Dynevor, known for her role in Bridgerton. The film also features Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare, and Maria Dizzia.

Despite its potential, Remain will face competition from other new releases. Universal is releasing a comedy starring Glen Powell, and Disney is bringing back the Ice Age franchise with Ice Age: Boiling Point on the same date. Luckily, each film appeals to a different audience. If Wuthering Heights performs well, Remain could benefit from a similar promotional strategy to the one currently being used by its stars, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

Remain premieres in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027.
