While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offered a glimpse of alternate universes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Doomsday appears to be fully exploring the possibilities of the Multiverse and its many different worlds.
Marvel fans are buzzing after James Mack, a well-known source of MCU news, posted a GIF of a dinosaur from Jurassic World on X (formerly Twitter). Everyone is trying to figure out what the post could mean for the future of Marvel movies.
There was a lot of speculation that the movie Avengers: Doomsday would include Savage Land, a hidden tropical rainforest in Antarctica that looks like it’s from prehistoric times. Interestingly, Savage Land actually showed up briefly in the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as its own separate universe within the larger MCU.
Which Doctor Doom variant may be making its MCU debut?
With Doctor Doom as the central villain in both the upcoming Doomsday movie and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, some fans speculated that the brief appearance of a T.rex was a hint at one of the many Doctor Doom variations expected to appear. This theory suggested a ‘Dinosaur Doom’ version of the character, which actually debuted in Marvel comics in 2023.
Details about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday are still being kept secret. The movie will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the team behind popular Marvel films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. This marks their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after those successful projects.
Robert Downey Jr. helped bring the Russo brothers back to direct future Avengers movies. He agreed to reprise his role, but only if the Russos were the ones directing the sequels.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will appear alongside characters fans already know, including Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. There’s speculation she’ll be Doom’s magical assistant and will even have a costume similar to the classic Fantastic Four villain.
The next major storyline, ‘Doomsday,’ will begin 14 months after the events of last year’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ It will feature the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men uniting to battle Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
