Let’s be real, this actor is an action icon for so many of us, spanning generations. But, and it’s a bit sad to say, that success really boxed him in. After huge hits like The A-Team and all those Taken movies, he started getting typecast – everyone just saw him as that action guy, and it became hard to break free from that image.
Look, Liam Neeson’s got a fantastic filmography – from the serious weight of Schindler’s List to the blockbuster thrills of Batman Begins. He’s clearly not afraid to take on diverse roles, and even as he moves into his 70s, he’s still diving headfirst into action! His latest, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, is a prime example – he’s still getting down and dirty, and it’s great to see. While he’s slated for another action film in 2025, this 2023 release really scratches that action itch for both him and, frankly, for us fans.
The film In the Land of Saints and Sinners is gaining popularity. Initially, critics gave it a low score on Rotten Tomatoes (41% at release), but that score has now risen to 83%, earning it a “Certified Fresh” rating. Audiences generally approve as well, with a 74% rating, but it seems many are enjoying the film through streaming services without necessarily posting reviews on sites like Rotten Tomatoes. As of February, the film is proving to be quite successful.
Liam Neeson’s newest action movie is currently the most popular title on Netflix worldwide. It’s been the top-ranked film in over 20 countries for several days.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners Does Not Disappoint
Liam Neeson is a reliably thrilling action star, and audiences clearly aren’t tiring of him – and with good reason. His new film is directed by Robert Lorenz, a longtime collaborator with Clint Eastwood, and it shares a similar style and feel with those classic Eastwood films in terms of both its story and how it looks.
Liam Neeson will star alongside Kerry Condon, who recently appeared in F1: The Movie and the horror film A Night Swim. Marvel fans will also recognize her as the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y., Tony Stark’s AI assistant and the successor to J.A.R.V.I.S.
The film In the Land of Saints and Sinners takes place in 1970s Ireland. Finbar Murphy, a man trying to leave his dark past behind, hopes to find peace in a quiet town. However, his plans are disrupted when a ruthless terrorist group, led by the dangerous Doirean (Condon), arrives. Murphy is then forced to choose between maintaining his peaceful disguise and allowing terrible things to happen, or using his unique abilities to defend the town.
Look, we all pretty much know where this movie is going, but honestly, how it gets there is just incredible. That’s why I think it’s really taken off – people are discovering this film and it’s becoming a huge hit, especially heading into 2026. It’s amazing to see a movie that was kind of under the radar suddenly become so popular!
