The new trailer for Anne Hathaway’s movie, The Devil Wears Prada 2, has broken the studio’s record for views. It’s been two decades since the original The Devil Wears Prada came out, and the sequel brings back stars Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
As a huge movie fan, I was blown away when I saw the news on X! 20th Century Studios announced that the trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 racked up an incredible 222 million views in just one day. Apparently, that makes it the most-watched trailer the studio has ever released – pretty amazing, right?
The social media post playfully called the announcement “Groundbreaking. Literally,” referencing a famous line from the original movie: “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.”
This isn’t the first time a trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has broken records. The short teaser released in November became the most-watched trailer of 2025, racking up 181.5 million views in just 24 hours. Forbes reported that Anne Hathaway’s social media alone accounted for a third of those views.
I was so excited to see the trailers for so many amazing films in 2025! Moana, Lilo & Stitch, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Toy Story 5, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Zootopia 2, The Odyssey, Michael, and Wicked: For Good all really stood out and got everyone talking – they were definitely the most-viewed trailers of the year.
The original Devil Wears Prada movie, which critics generally liked (earning a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), was based on Lauren Weisberger’s book of the same name. It was a major financial success, earning $326 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
The movie earned Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. It was also nominated for Best Musical or Comedy Film and Emily Blunt received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
At the Academy Awards, The Devil Wears Prada received two nominations: Meryl Streep was nominated for Best Actress, and the film also received a nomination for Best Costume Design.
The first movie became incredibly popular, filled with memorable lines like “That’s all” and “You have no style or sense of fashion.” It follows Andy Sachs, a journalist played by Hathaway, as she begins working for Miranda Priestly, a demanding fashion magazine editor portrayed by Streep.
I was so excited to see the trailer for the sequel – it’s been 20 years since the first movie! Apparently, it’s broken some records for 20th Century Studios, which is awesome. One of the funniest parts of the preview is that Miranda keeps forgetting who Andy and Emily Charlton are – it’s a running gag, and I can’t stop laughing about it!
The upcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2 boasts an impressive cast, featuring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, alongside new additions like Tracie Thoms, Tibor Feldman, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Rachel Bloom, and Lady Gaga.
With Andy now the features editor, the characters at Runway magazine will navigate a changed media landscape as they try to keep the magazine relevant.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released in theaters on Friday, May 1, 2026.
