Spider-Man Brand New Day Casting Report Hints At Universally-Hated Villain Debut

The upcoming Spider-Man 4, based on the Brand New Day storyline, might introduce a villain that comic book fans will really dislike. While it’s still unclear who the main villain will be, rumors and leaks have created a lot of confusion. So far, seven villains are confirmed to appear, including established characters like Tombstone and lesser-known threats like Boomerang, and even the Savage Hulk. This comes after a difficult time for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, as No Way Home ended with everyone – including his girlfriend MJ – forgetting he exists.

A recent report from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman suggests that Eman Esfandi, known for his role in Ahsoka, has been cast in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The rumor claims he’ll play a new love interest for Zendaya’s MJ, but one who will create conflict with the potential reunion between MJ and Peter Parker. Many fans believe Esfandi will be portraying a particularly disliked character from recent Amazing Spider-Man comics.

Starting in April 2022, Zeb Wells’ run on The Amazing Spider-Man comic introduced Paul Rabin as Mary Jane Watson’s new boyfriend. This happened while Mary Jane and Peter Parker were temporarily separated due to a complex plotline.

Honestly, a lot of Spider-Man fans – myself included – really didn’t like Paul. He just felt like a forced obstacle between Peter and MJ, and his story never really made sense. He wasn’t a compelling villain or character, just frustrating! It felt like he was only there to create drama, and not good drama at that.

You know, it’s really cool to think about Paul Rudd’s character, Ant-Man, having a background in quantum computation. In the comics, he was a student studying that stuff! It actually fits nicely with where things are going in the MCU, especially since MJ and Ned were off to MIT in Massachusetts after No Way Home. It makes me wonder if that’s going to play a bigger role down the line.

Many fans have noticed a striking similarity between the Disney+ Star Wars actor and Paul, particularly in their beards. Because of this, and the fact that he’s a new romantic interest for MJ while Peter Parker is away, many believe he’ll be the one to play Paul when the character is introduced in the Brand New Day storyline.

Richtman followed up on his previous statement by tweeting that Navid Negahban will be clean-shaven in Spider-Man 4. He appears to have shaved for his role in Ahsoka Season 2. While this doesn’t rule out him playing a version of the character Paul, it’s still just a guess – he could be playing a different character entirely, or even an original one.

Eman Esfandi is reportedly joining the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has just finished filming. The movie already stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Liza Colón-Zayas, Marvin Jones III, and Tramel Tillman.

How Will MJ’s New Boyfriend Fit Into Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

With both Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson having forgotten their past with Peter Parker, it’s unclear what will reunite them in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Peter might quietly watch over them, or a new villain could unexpectedly put them in harm’s way.

There were rumors Sadie Sink, known for her role in Stranger Things, would become a new love interest, but that doesn’t appear to be true. It seems MJ has started dating someone else, but Peter likely hasn’t, which will probably make things even more difficult for him.

Even though Eman Esfandi is portraying Paul in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s unlikely his character will follow the complex storyline from the comics. Any similarities will probably just be superficial, as Paul Rabin is a particularly unpopular character with a troubled history in The Amazing Spider-Man comics.

It’s unclear how long Peter Parker and MJ will stay together, but it seems probable that Doctor Strange’s memory spell will eventually be reversed, reuniting them. This could happen as the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves toward a fresh start after Avengers: Secret Wars.
