Jason Statham’s ‘Shelter’ Breaks Box Office Records in MENA

Jason Statham is back with another action-packed film that’s proving to be a major success at the box office, potentially boosting the movie industry in some areas. The film, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (known for Angel Has Fallen and Greenland), features Statham as a retired hitman on a new mission, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable and popular action star, as demonstrated by his recent work in Shelter.

Despite a disappointing $5.5 million opening weekend in the U.S., the film Shelter has become a box office hit in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), earning $2.2 million. This surpasses the film’s earnings in China ($2.1 million) and the U.K. ($1.3 million). According to distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment, nearly one-third of moviegoers in Saudi Arabia chose to see Jason Statham in Shelter, making it the biggest English-language film released in the region since September.

Front Row CEO Gianluca Chakra highlighted how Jason Statham’s strong appeal has been particularly valuable during a time of instability for moviegoers and the film industry. He emphasized Statham’s exceptional ability to draw audiences in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), making him the most reliable and profitable action star in the region.

Right now, many people are looking for a way to escape through movies, and ‘Shelter’ definitely delivered that. Jason Statham is incredibly popular with audiences in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and this film proves he’s the region’s go-to action hero.

Despite a slow start at U.S. box offices following its release, and despite mixed reviews, Jason Statham’s latest film, Shelter, is expected to find a large audience when it becomes available on streaming services. While releasing the film in January may not have been ideal – as audiences often have a lull in moviegoing after the holidays – its strong performance in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region proves that audiences worldwide still enjoy Statham’s action-packed roles and signature tough-guy persona.

I’m a huge Jason Statham fan, and it’s amazing how he consistently delivers exactly what you expect – pure, exciting action! He’s one of the few remaining movie stars where people will go see a film just because his name is on it. While his latest, Shelter, hasn’t quite exploded with audiences here yet, I have a really good feeling that’s going to change fast. I’m especially excited for Mutiny and The Beekeeper 2 – I’m betting they’ll be huge!
