DC Studios’ James Gunn recently shared an update about Season 2 of Creature Commandos, and it’s disappointing news for fans. Despite growing excitement for the show’s return, Gunn has confirmed that the new season will be delayed longer than initially expected.
James Gunn recently answered a fan question on Instagram, revealing that the second season of Creature Commandos is planned for release in 2027. This means fans will have to wait over two years after the first season, which launched in late 2024 as the first series in the new DC Universe. Given that the show is meant to kick off this rebooted universe, such a long wait could be disappointing for viewers.
After a fan inquired about future DC television shows, including a possible second season of Creature Commandos, James Gunn confirmed that both Creature Commandos and other projects are planned, but won’t arrive until 2027.

The release of Creature Commandos was seen as a way to establish the overall style and feel of the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, ‘Gods and Monsters.’ The animated series showed a grittier, more unusual side of the DC world and set up storylines that would continue in upcoming live-action films and shows.
Because of how well Season 1 performed, many people expected Season 2 to be released fairly quickly, much faster than typical live-action shows. However, the current estimate of a 2027 release date indicates a wait of around three years, possibly more depending on the exact premiere date.
The delay is especially noticeable when considering DC Studios’ overall plans. James Gunn has consistently highlighted the importance of a connected universe across animated shows, TV series, and movies, where characters will appear in different formats. A long wait for Creature Commandos could disrupt the story’s flow and impact that part of the DC Universe.
2027 Is a Crowded Year for DC Studios

The delay is likely due to DC Studios having a lot of big projects planned for 2027. James Gunn has confirmed a Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, is aiming for release that year, following the first Superman movie in 2025. Additionally, Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is also scheduled for 2027, making it another key release for Warner Bros. and DC.
In addition to the movies already planned, James Gunn hinted on Instagram that we can expect more DC television shows in 2027. Several series are being developed, though exact release dates haven’t been revealed yet.
Two new DC projects are in the works. An animated Blue Beetle series will pick up Jaime Reyes’ story after the 2023 movie, and Xolo Maridueña is likely to return as the voice of the character. Additionally, a live-action series about Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo in Superman, is also being developed.
Is Creature Commandos in Trouble?

Fans are most worried about keeping the initial excitement going. Creature Commandos was meant to launch a fresh start for DC, introducing James Gunn’s new team. Delaying it until 2027 could lessen the impact of the first season, especially if audiences are already trying to keep up with several different DC shows and movies released close together.
Another concern is how Season 2 will connect to the overall story. If Creature Commandos is meant to directly influence the live-action shows, its late arrival could create problems with the consistent storyline James Gunn has planned. However, Season 2 might be designed to stand on its own, giving DC Studios the freedom to focus on movie releases without worrying about conflicts.
However, the delay could actually indicate thorough preparation, not problems. James Gunn has repeatedly emphasized the importance of avoiding rushed production and prioritizing quality for all DCU projects. If this approach leads to a better, more unified second season, the wait will have been worthwhile.
Fans will need to be patient. While a second season of Creature Commandos is planned, it won’t be released for quite some time.
