Jake Gyllenhaal has a new streaming project in the works.
Netflix is partnering with Jake Gyllenhaal for a brand new action thriller. This marks their first collaboration in five years. Gyllenhaal has found a lot of success with streaming projects lately, including the Road House remake for Prime Video and the Apple TV series Presumed Innocent. He’s been involved in several popular hits.
Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in a new action thriller for Netflix called Kill Switch. Written by Harrison Query (known for Heads of State), the movie’s plot is currently being kept secret. However, sources say it will have a similar feel to films like Sicario and Collateral.
Jake Gyllenhaal will star in and help produce the new film, working with production companies 6th & Idaho, Nine Stories, and 12:01 Films. This marks his first Netflix original movie in five years, following his performance in the popular thriller, The Guilty.
Query, who’s also an executive producer on this new film, has a proven track record of creating popular streaming content. His recent movie, Heads of State, featuring John Cena and Idris Elba, quickly became one of Prime Video’s biggest hits after its release in July 2025, landing in the top four most-watched films. He’s currently developing several more projects for different streaming platforms.
Currently, Query and Gyllenhaal are collaborating on two films: Kill Switch and Code Black, which has been picked up by Amazon MGM. Query also has other projects in development with Netflix, including the series Trigger Point, a show produced by A24 and featuring Joel Edgerton, and The Operator, a new movie starring Mark Wahlberg.
Jake Gyllenhaal is adding another action film, Kill Switch, to his growing list of projects. He’s currently filming Road House 2 for Prime Video, and will also produce the second season of Presumed Innocent, though he won’t be appearing in it. Details about Kill Switch are still limited.
Because details about the upcoming Netflix film, Kill Switch, are still scarce, it’s expected to remain largely under wraps until production gets underway. It’s currently unknown how important this project is to Netflix compared to their other films. However, the fact that it’s been announced suggests it’s further along in development than we might have thought.
