Ever since the first trailer dropped, fans have been excited about the new live-action movie starring Nicholas Galitzine. Even the casting of Jared Leto as Skeletor hasn’t dampened their enthusiasm for the classic ’80s cartoon. Now, with a new line of toys from Mattel released ahead of the movie, we’re getting a much clearer look at two villains who weren’t fully shown in the trailer, as well as He-Man’s iconic companion, Battle Cat.
Like the Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren, which now has highly sought-after and expensive vintage toys, the new film is also getting its own line of action figures. These figures will be based on the actors in the movie, including actors like Galitzine, Camila Mendes, and Idris Elba. The first wave of figures includes a detailed look at the new Battle Cat design, showcasing his updated armor, and a good view of the villains Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops.
The trailer features Cringer, but doesn’t show Battle Cat. However, leaked photos from last year showed a promotional display of the hero riding Battle Cat. The new toy version of Battle Cat reveals a sleeker armor design, moving away from the tiger-head mask of the original cartoon and closer to the updated looks seen in more recent Masters of the Universe animated series.
Old Villains Get a New but Familiar Look
The trailer offered fans their first glimpse of Jared Leto as Skeletor, using CGI to recreate the character’s iconic 1980s appearance. Though Skeletor was fully revealed, other villains only had quick appearances. Beast Man was shown after not being previously announced, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn fought Teela, and Spikor unexpectedly appeared for a short moment.
The trailer offered a quick, blurry glimpse of Trap-Jaw, played by Sam C. Wilson, in his first live-action appearance. Now, a newly revealed toy gives fans a clear look at the character’s design in the movie, staying true to the cartoon with a green upper face and a purple, mechanical lower jaw.
The toy line also includes Tri-Klops, a character played by Kojo Attah in the movie, though he wasn’t featured in the trailer. Like many of the toys, Tri-Klops – with his different interchangeable eyes – strongly resembles his original cartoon counterpart.
