As a huge fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work, I’m incredibly excited for 2026! We’re getting not one, not two, but three new Westerns: Marshals, The Madison, and The Dutton Ranch. While they were initially thought of as connected to Yellowstone, it seems like The Madison is really forging its own path now, and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
While four potential Yellowstone spinoffs are still in development, The Madison won’t be one of them. Originally planned as part of the Yellowstone universe, the story about a family relocating from New York will now exist as its own separate series within Taylor Sheridan’s broader collection of shows.
Premiering March 14th on Paramount+, The Madison stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. While fans are excited about the Yellowstone spin-offs The Dutton Ranch and Marshals, this new series, with a completely original story and characters, is generating the most buzz.
Drawing inspiration from classic Western TV shows and featuring a fantastic cast of well-known actors, The Madison is shaping up to be Taylor Sheridan’s strongest project this year. It might even be more successful than NOLA King, the Tulsa King spin-off starring Samuel L. Jackson, which is coming out around the same time.
Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison Is Not A Yellowstone Spinoff
Paramount has clarified that The Madison isn’t connected to the Yellowstone universe, even though it was initially presented alongside official Yellowstone spinoffs like Marshals and The Dutton Ranch. While the new drama series is also set in modern-day Montana, it centers on a completely different ranching family.
The Clyburns, a family originally from the East Coast, have relocated to the West in an attempt to heal from a painful past in New York City. Michelle Pfeiffer will star as Stacy Clyburn, the mother of the family, and Kurt Russell will play her husband, Preston.
Matthew Fox and Patrick J. Adams, both well-known from network television, join the cast as members of the Clyburn family. Rising star Amiah Miller, recently seen in Planet of the Apes, plays the role of Stacy and Preston’s granddaughter. This talented group of actors is on par with the impressive casts of previous Taylor Sheridan Westerns like 1883 and 1923.
Why The Madison Will Be Taylor Sheridan’s Best Western Of 2026
Unlike his previous shows, Marshals and The Dutton Ranch, Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison takes a new direction with the Western genre. Instead of following characters with Western roots, it tells the story of an Eastern family trying to build a life on a frontier that’s completely unfamiliar to them, offering a modern take on a classic Western theme.
I’ve noticed that a lot of classic Westerns, like Bonanza and The Big Valley, all have a similar feel – a family trying to hold onto their land and way of life. It’s clear Taylor Sheridan loves those shows too, and I think The Madison is going to be very much in that vein. Honestly, I expect the Clyburn family to remind me more of the Cartwrights or the Barkleys than the Duttons from Yellowstone. They seem like a more traditional Western family.
With such a talented cast, this series is clearly a modern take on beloved classic TV shows, and it’s shaping up to be Taylor Sheridan’s must-watch release of 2026: The Madison.
