According to a Wall Street Journal report, Disney CEO Bob Iger plans to leave his position before his contract expires at the end of the year. He has reportedly informed colleagues of his decision to step down sooner than expected.
There’s speculation that Bob Iger might step down as CEO as early as this weekend, before Disney announces its financial results next week. So far, Disney and Iger haven’t confirmed or denied these reports.
Bob Iger has reportedly indicated to colleagues and close contacts that he’s prepared to step back from the day-to-day operations of the company and potentially leave his role as CEO, especially after becoming discouraged by recent disagreements and public issues.
There’s growing speculation that Disney CEO Bob Iger will soon step down, with some, like industry insider Jeff Sneider, predicting an announcement any day now. However, The Wall Street Journal reports that Disney’s board will actually meet next week in Burbank to discuss and vote on his replacement. Bob Chapek was CEO before Iger returned in 2022, after a period of disappointing performance. Iger’s return was initially expected to be temporary while Disney searched for a long-term leader, but he recently extended his contract with the company.
Bob Iger Reportedly Stepping Down as Disney CEO Early
According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney has two main candidates to replace Bob Iger as CEO. They are Josh D’Amaro, who now runs Disney’s theme parks, cruises, and merchandise, and Dana Walden, a current co-leader of Disney Entertainment.
Wow, things are feeling really different over at Disney lately. I just heard about Bob Iger possibly leaving, and it’s hitting me hard. It makes me wonder how everyone’s doing – I’m seriously hoping Kevin Feige and Pete Doctor are okay through all this!
