As a huge X-Men fan, I’m getting so excited about their MCU debut! And it sounds like we’re already starting to get hints about who the big bad guys will be. It’s awesome to think we might know some of the villains before the movie even comes out!
What is the latest X-Men update?
A recent report from James Mack, a source with inside knowledge of Marvel Studios, suggests that Mister Sinister is planned to be the main villain driving the mutant storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mack believes Sinister will appear relatively early in the first X-Men movie, alongside another classic X-Men foe, MOJO.
Mack clarified that the new X-Men movies won’t depict hatred towards mutants, but will instead center on governments attempting to control their abilities. He explained that anyone with powers who isn’t part of the Avengers will be seen as a danger, creating the conflict and challenges the characters are known for.
Details about the new X-Men movie are still scarce. Jake Schreier, the director of the upcoming Thunderbolts (scheduled for 2025), is set to direct. Although some X-Men characters will appear in the next Avengers film, Doomsday*, it’s currently unknown who will be cast as the main X-Men team members, as no official announcements have been made.
Marvel Studios has announced that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027. After these films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is planned to launch a new storyline called the ‘Mutant Saga,’ focusing on the X-Men.
