What is the latest Black Panther MCU actor update?

A recent report from Daniel Richtman indicates that Damson Idris is being considered for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has met with Marvel Studios about it. While a decision is expected soon, it’s unclear when we’ll find out if he’s been cast.

According to Richtman, a new Black Panther will appear in the upcoming movie Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for release in 2027. This film will continue the story from Avengers: Doomsday, arriving in theaters on December 18, 2026, before Secret Wars hits theaters on December 17, 2027.

As a movie critic, I’ve been following the chatter about what Marvel will do with Black Panther, and it’s been intense. A while back, Jeff Sneider from The InSneider reported that he’s heard Marvel already has a shortlist of actors they’re considering to take on the role of T’Challa, previously and powerfully played by the late Chadwick Boseman.

According to Sneider, while fans strongly favor Damson Idris for the part, he thinks David Jonsson – known for his roles in Alien: Romulus and the upcoming The Longest Walk – is more likely to get it. Even so, Idris remains the top pick among fans if the role needs to be filled by a new actor.

Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri/Black Panther, will be part of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, scheduled for release in December 2026. The film, currently being made, will also feature Winston Duke as M’Baku and Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, who served as the villain in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Marvel is planning a third Black Panther movie, with Ryan Coogler back as director. While there’s no official release date yet, it’s expected to come out after Avengers: Secret Wars.
