The newest Star Wars film centers around the child of Han Solo and Princess Leia. A major surprise in the recent Disney-era Star Wars stories is that Leia and Han had a son named Ben after the events of Return of the Jedi. And Ben wasn’t just an ordinary child.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the story of Ben Solo. It’s tragic how he fell from the path of a Jedi, especially after Luke Skywalker took him under his wing. He ultimately became the villain Kylo Ren, brilliantly played by Adam Driver, and turned against his own family. What’s really compelling about Ben, and a big part of why I enjoyed the recent Star Wars: Legacy of Vader comic series so much, is his deep connection to his family history – all the way back to his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker, and even Darth Vader. It’s a family drama playing out on a galactic scale, and it’s been central to his character from the very beginning.
The twelfth issue of Legacy of Vader finished the story of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren’s journey to find connection with his family. It also showed a new image of young Ben being held by his parents, Han Solo and Leia Organa, as revealed on Star Wars Holocron.

The series concluded with Han and Leia lovingly embracing their newborn child, who would later become a Sith, as they welcomed the actor from the sequel trilogy into the story. In this scene, their conversation feels strangely foreshadowing and direct.
Leia wonders what their son will become and asks Han, “What do you think he’s going to be?” Han replies, “Whatever he wants to be, Leia. We’ll support him and make sure he gets there.”

This was not the first time Legacy of Vader included flashbacks to Ben Solo’s childhood.

In the second issue of the comic, Kylo Ren experienced a series of visions showing him moments from his childhood.

These included scant glances of him with his parents once again.

This issue of Legacy of Vader also featured appearances by other important Star Wars characters, such as Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, and C-3PO.

There was this really sweet moment where little Ben was riding on the shoulders of his dad’s wookiee co-pilot – it was just so heartwarming to see!

Though his story in the Star Wars films has concluded, Lucasfilm has kept Ben Solo—the son of Leia and Han—prominent in their comic books over the past few years.

We previously saw one of the youngest depictions of a key character in the comic Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Last Stand #4. It showed Leia holding a young Ben after the battle that ultimately led to the events of The Force Awakens, years before the film’s story began.

Viewers got an in-depth look at how the character fell to the dark side in Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren.

Fans also got to see the character reunite with his parents aboard the famous Millennium Falcon in issue #2 of the Star Wars: Han Solo: Hunt for the Falcon comic.

All twelve issues of the Star Wars: Legacy of Vader comic series are now available. This new story, which adds to the official Star Wars timeline, follows Ben Solo—also known as Kylo Ren—as he searches the galaxy for artifacts connected to his grandfather, Darth Vader. (You can find more details about the story here.) The comic is written by Charles Soule, a well-known Star Wars comic author, with artwork by Luke Ross and Stefano Raffaele.
Will Ben Solo Ever Return to the Star Wars Universe?
Fans loved seeing Ben Solo featured in his own 12-part comic book series and are eager for more stories about him. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the popular sci-fi franchise has any new Ben Solo content planned for the immediate future.
For months, Star Wars fans have been particularly interested in Adam Driver’s character – the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia – even beyond what’s shown in this comic book.
So, back in October, I was pretty shocked to hear Disney had scrapped a Ben Solo movie! Apparently, Adam Driver was set to reprise his role, and Steven Soderbergh – the guy who did Ocean’s 11 – was going to direct. The working title was The Hunt for Ben Solo, and it would have picked up after what we thought was his death in The Rise of Skywalker. It would have been wild to see where they took his story!
When The Hunt for Ben Solo was cancelled, it upset many Star Wars fans and made the Legacy of Vader comic series, which was still being published, feel even more poignant.
This movie has generated a strong fan campaign demanding its production, with thousands of Star Wars fans actively supporting the idea. Despite Lucasfilm remaining firm in its decision not to move forward with a film about Ben Solo, fans continue to express their disappointment.
The success of a project like Legacy of Vader might restart talks between Driver and Lucasfilm executives, potentially reviving the Hunt for Ben Solo project.
