Ne Zha 2’s English dub trailer for US release launched by A24

The American production company, A24, has unveiled a dubbed-in-English preview for Ne Zha 2, set to hit movie theaters across the United States on August 22nd.

In this version, we have Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh portraying Lady Yin, who is Ne Zha’s mother. This is the initial joint project between A24 and CMC Pictures, the film’s original Chinese distributor.

The trailer showcases extended portions focusing on Lady Yin, with Yeoh expressing lines such as “Being immortal or demon, you are still my son. You need to be courageous and forge your own way.” It ends with a humorous scene where she requests, “Hold on! Before you depart, could I have one final, powerful hug from you?” To which Ne Zha responds, “Oh come on, everyone’s watching!” as the audience reacts.

Under the guidance of director Yang Yu (known as Jiaozi), Ne Zha 2 serves as a follow-up to the 2019 movie, Ne Zha. The narrative unfolds with Ne Zha and Ao Bing, who have been reincarnated as spirits, embarking on challenging journeys to restore their human bodies once more. This tale is deeply rooted in Chinese folklore and draws inspiration from the 16th-century novel, Investiture of the Gods.

Vincent Rodriguez III plays Li Jing, Aleks Le portrays Ao Bing, Crystal Lee and Damien Haas are also in the cast. Instead of Stephanie Sheh, Michelle Yeoh will be taking on the role of Lady Yin. Yeoh expressed her excitement saying, “I’m grateful to be a part of Ne Zha 2… It’s a pleasure to share this with audiences in English.” (This information was shared by Deadline.)

In its global run, Ne Zha 2 raked in a staggering $2.2 billion, making it the top-earning animated movie and non-English film of all time, as well as securing the fifth spot among the highest-grossing films worldwide. The blockbuster will be shown in IMAX, 3D, and other premium cinema formats across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
