Like Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine has become well-known for his acting roles. Pine, famous for Star Trek and voicing Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, initially turned down many scripts until he was captivated by Taylor Sheridan’s Hell and High Water. Starring alongside the seasoned Bridges was a key factor in making the film a standout modern western.

The movie follows brothers Tanner and Toby Howard (played by Ben Foster and Chris Pine) as they resort to robbing banks in West Texas to save their family ranch. Their plan is going well until they clash with a determined Texas Ranger, Officer Hamilton (Jeff Bridges), and his partner, Alberto Parker (Gil Birmingham), which leads to a dangerous and escalating situation.

With four Academy Award nominations – including Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor for Jeff Bridges, Best Picture, and Best Film Editing – and a remarkable 117 nominations overall, the film’s quality is undeniable. It was a major success for Taylor Sheridan in 2016, building on the foundation laid by Hell or High Water and foreshadowing the impressive work he’s become known for today.
