I’ve been following the drama with Victoria and David Beckham and their son, Brooklyn, and it’s honestly been fascinating – and a little sad. It reminds me so much of what happened with Prince Harry and his family. Everyone’s been talking about Victoria’s dancing at Brooklyn’s wedding, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m really curious about these claims that the Beckhams tried to pay Brooklyn to relinquish his rights to the Beckham name – what exactly went on there?
In a series of scathing Instagram Stories posts shared on January 19, Brooklyn Beckham confirmed a rift in the family, saying David and Victoria care only about their public personas — “Brand Beckham comes first” — and that their “love” was contingent on social media posts. He also made the following claim regarding his name, writing:
In the weeks leading up to my wedding, my parents constantly pressured me – even offering money – to give up the rights to my name. They wanted me to sign the agreement before the wedding so it could take effect, and it would impact not only me but also my wife and any future children we had. My refusal to do so delayed their plans, and our relationship hasn’t been the same ever since.
Details about the supposed bribe, and what David and Victoria Beckham wanted the person to sign, haven’t been made public. However, records show Victoria Beckham has trademarked the names of all her children – Brooklyn, Romeo (23), Cruz (20), and Harper (14) – since December 2016.
Now that Brooklyn Beckham and his brothers are adults, they had the option to ask their mother to transfer ownership of the assets to them. A source speaking with The Times (UK) reported:
There seems to be some confusion about who owns the trademarks. While a parent would have initially filed for trademarks on behalf of Brooklyn and his brothers when they were children, they are now all adults and own their trademarks independently. Brooklyn specifically manages his own trademarks with his own team.
As a film and celebrity culture enthusiast, I was reading about Brooklyn Beckham and discovered something interesting. Apparently, four trademarks connected to his name are set to expire in December 2026. His recent social media post didn’t really explain who currently owns those trademarks, but it’s a pretty big deal because if he wants to build his own brand and land deals, he’ll need to own them himself. Right now, it seems he needs his mother’s permission to use his name for things like leather goods, music-related items, even pens, shoes, and makeup. Once those trademarks lapse, he’ll have a lot more freedom to do his own thing!
David Beckham didn’t directly address his son’s controversial social media post, but he did offer a broader comment about the risks of social media, stating that “Kids will make mistakes, and that’s part of growing up.”
Sources say David and Victoria Beckham are concerned about the prenuptial agreement their son Brooklyn signed before marrying Nicola Peltz in 2022, fearing it could leave him financially exposed if they were to divorce. While Brooklyn has stated he doesn’t want to repair his relationship with his parents, an insider claims David and Victoria would welcome him back immediately.
This is definitely a sensitive issue, and we need to wait and see if we learn anything else about the trademark.
